Good news for Archie fans! Audio streaming giant, Spotify, has inked an exclusive deal with Archie Comics to produce podcast adaptations featuring the publisher’s iconic characters.
Spotify users will be able to enjoy podcasts based on all the Archie Comics characters including Archie, Betty, Jughead, Veronica, Sabrina, Josie by exploring different story-telling mediums. This move comes as the Swedish audio streaming platform aims to reach newer and wider audiences. However, the financial details of the deal are yet to be revealed.
Commenting on this deal, Archie Comics CEO and publisher Jon Goldwater said, “The podcast and audio space is so vibrant, and Spotify is, hands down, the industry leader there. Bringing the iconic Archie library of characters to Spotify is a perfect match, and we’re so excited to partner with them to explore new, compelling stories featuring our characters. It’s an amazing frontier and we can’t wait to unveil what we’ve been working on.”
Archie Comics’ official statement also pointed out that the brand continues to expand its offerings on various multimedia platforms, with digital and print partners like Scholastic, Comixology and Little Bee Books. Its broadcasting partners include Warner Brothers Television that has created CW’s Riverdale, Katy Keene, and Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
Along with the creation of content for all age groups, Spotify is also planning to create podcasts targeted to older audiences and is inclined to Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
Last month, Spotify announced its multi-year partnership with Warner Bros for producing and distributing an original slate of DC podcasts on the platform. It has also signed an exclusive podcast deal with Joe Rogan under which, The Joe Rogan Experience podcast will be available exclusively on the platform, 1 September onwards.
