Engineering student Sarvan directs a 50-minute 3D thriller, Naran

Sri Saravanan J.B, aka Sarvan who is currently pursuing his third-year Electronics and Communications Engineering at Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore has directed a live action 3D Stereoscopic Tamil film, titled Naran which releases online this month.

The 50 minute film is a romantic thriller about five youngsters who are friends and unfortunately get hooked up in a problem related to some of the social evils and also outlines how they tackled the problems, and managed to come out of it.

Speaking to Animationxpress.com Sarvan, director of Naran said, “I had a passion in doing short films, but still this being my first project I was planning to do it in a different way and there came this 3D idea. We managed to dig up the impacts caused by some social evils and blended it into a story with our creativity.”

The Naran cast is made up of Sarvan’s friends — Sachin, Ashwin Krishnan, Kishore, Siddharth, Snigdha, Shree Vidhya and Bhavadharini.

Elaborating more about challenges faced, Sarvan said, “Bringing stereoscopic 3D effect was the most challenging part, at first it didn’t come out well as planned, we had to do a lot of tweaking and changing of camera angles and eventually we are happy with the results.”
The Romantic thriller is targeted at college students and besides the online release; the makers will be screening the movie in college auditoriums with 3D projectors and screens which will be provided by the developers of the film itself.

“Along with 3D technology, we have made 5.1dts audio and have also tried ultraslow motion techniques in our movie. We are organizing a 3D technology exhibition where we are making the Visual Communication students know about the techniques used in 3D movie making, along with the launch of Naran. We expect, this will be a huge milestone and a new trend setter in short movie making and stereoscopy” Concluded Sarvan.
