Founded this year and based out of Mumbai, Pipedream labs is a comic publishing company focusing on comics, graphic novels, and game apps development for Apple. Recently the company launched Dr.Ajax Army of Bees, which is their 4th title of their debut Dr.Ajax Comic Book Series.
Dr. Ajax Army of bees is a 38 pages comic book written by ghost writer ‘anniswans’ a team of three writers and designed by Devaki. Priced at INR.149, this comic book is targeted at the age group 10 and above and lovers of Science Fiction.
Dr Ajax series is based on the sci-fi genre; where the fiction area is composed of storytelling and the science part is inspired form real, unique, futuristic and extremely inquisitive parts of science, technology, nature and zoology.
Army of Bees’ story is of a revenge bound man against a bank, and it takes one through concepts of animal communication, honey bees, their way of working together as a single organism, methods of communication, order and hierarchy.
On the occasion of launching Dr.Ajax Army of Bees at Comic Con Express Bengaluru, Anirudh, Founder of Pipedream Labs said, “We got an overwhelming response at Comic Con Express Bengaluru. The comic book cover design and the art created a buzz around the launch. Artist Devaki has done a unique signature style of bold colors and ink strokes, which are attention grabbing to say the least. We could sell more than 200 copies of all 4 comics, and most heartening was when people who bought on the first day, came to buy more titles on the second day of exhibition”
For making Dr.Ajax Army of Bees, Pipedream Labs did extensive research on the way a dog’s mindset and behavioral aspects works. Also, the team researched on honey bees, their swarm intelligence and their mode of communication through chemical pheromones.
Highlighting more on the look and feel of Dr. Ajax Army of Bees, Anirudh shared, “Army of bees is sketched and inked by Devaki, who has given prime importance to expressions and drama while penciling and inking. With colors she has taken care mostly of the moods. Hence army of bees comes out to be a beautiful, loud and color full comic and it generates a high pulse drama as you progress reading the book.”
Anirudh feels that the USP of this book is its researched content and the comic carries a unique layer of story and information, which would impress readers. At present, Dr.Ajax is available online on Infibeam and it is also available as a subscription titled Dr Ajax Kit, which is a package of comics along with a magazine aDIY project and a gift.
PipeDream Labs will be launching 8 more issues in the Dr.Ajax Series in the coming months.
Besides Dr.Ajax Series, the publishing house is also working on a Sci-Fi Comic named ‘Time Trekkers’, Big Bang Story which is a graphic novel and a puzzle game for IPAD.
