The 1st ever action packed Mumbai Film and Comics Convention was organized by Comic Con India over the weekend of October 20-21 at World Trade Centre, Cuffe Parade, Mumbai.

With the increasing synergy between films and comics, Comic Con India found Mumbai to be the ideal place to introduce the brand new convention – ‘Mumbai Film & Comics Convention’. An event dedicated to Comics, films and everything in between.

The event had stalls exhibiting, promoting and selling comics, graphic novels, merchandise etc. There were screenings, previews, panels from Indian and international films; workshops and interactive sessions happening every half hour at the dedicated stage area. Also, there were some exclusive launches of Comic book titles, book signings, competitions etc.

The opening day of the MFCC saw the latest issue of the Indian Comic Journal (ICJ) being unveiled by author & artist Abid Surti.

Kids and Adults came dressed as their favorite comic & movie characters. Because it was a Film and comic con, filmy costumes were allowed.

“We saw everyone having a wonderful time taking part in the variety of interactive sessions. Fans from all age groups eagerly flocked at the different Comics/Graphic Novels’ stalls. Comics and Movie Merchandise including Apparel, Toys-Action Figures, Mugs, Posters and even Superhero USB drives, Calendars was a huge hit. We have a lot of activities planned for tomorrow. We are looking forward to day 2 now”, said Jatin Varma, Founder, Comic Con India.

Day 1 saw an interactive and playful panel discussion with IRock films on their high concept youth oriented films. Siddhartha M. Jain, Producer & CEO, IRock Films along with guest actors Shazahn Padamsee, Rajat Barmecha and Nafisa Jiah Khan kept the audiences engrossed.

There was a Retrospective Panel on 30 years of “Jaane bhi do yaaron” with Director Kundan Shah.

The pioneers of India’s comic book revolution — Amar Chitra Katha, took a special session on their feature film “SONS OF RAM – Heroes will Rise”, with the voice cast and creative team behind the film.

Also, there was a session with the creative duo behind one of the most successful Indian Film based Graphic Novel-The Agent Vinod- The Jungfrau Encounter!

Campfire Graphic novels launched their latest title in their mythological series, ‘Draupadi’.

For the first time in India, Hachette Book publishing launched a brilliantly drawn and darkly comic literary graphic novel “Sudhershan (Chimpanzee). It is a deeply moving and darkly comic tale of a chimp in Bollywood, and the creatures – human or otherwise — in his life.

For the young fans and budding there was a learning session with the International Artist Danesh Mohiuddin (he drew MFCC cityscape artwork).

The Cosplay (costume contest) ensured that excitement levels remained at an all time high. We saw celebs attending and interacting with various comics’ artists along with fans”, said Jatin Varma, Founder, Comic Con India.

Jatin added, “We are extremely happy with the response we are getting from the fans. Comic Con India is becoming widely popular and we are getting a lot of fan mails from across cities. We look forward to visiting a new city next year other than Delhi, Mumbai &Bangalore”

The two day fest saw an interactive and playful panel discussion with IRock films on their high concept youth oriented films. Siddhartha M. Jain, Producer & CEO, IRock Films along with guest actors Shazahn Padamsee, Rajat Barmecha and Nafisa Jiah Khan kept the audiences engrossed.

Campfire Graphic novels held their Young Writer of the Year 2012 Awards ceremony, a competition that rewarded the most talented young writers in the country.

The special treat for the fans at the fest was the sneak peek of Warner Bros India’s upcoming films – The Hobbit & Man of Steel. Also, there was a special preview of “The Sixth”, the animated series by Vimanika Comics and Maya Animation.

Also, the most awaited Munkeeman (Vol 2): The Missing Yearsa graphic novel created by Abhishek Sharma (Director – Tere Bin Laden), was launched by Ayushmann Khurana at the event.

Never did the comics’ community in India have a platform where they could meet and interact. Now they do! Comic Con India is a unique event celebrating the illustrated medium, which brings together the whole comics industry and related fields such as Merchandise, Toys, Games, Films and Animation, along with fans of this culture from all age groups.
