Kathryn Hahn to star in ‘WandaVision’ spin-off as Agatha Harkness

WandaVision spinoff series starring Kathryn Hahn is in development at Disney Plus from Marvel Studios.

First reported by Variety, Kathryn Hahn is getting an Agatha Harkness spinoff series. However the plot of the series is under wrap, WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer would serve as the writer and executive producer on the project. This spinoff series would be the first project for Schaeffer as part of her recently signed three-year deal with Marvel Studios in May.

WandaVision aired earlier this year from January to March, the first live-action Marvel series to debut on Disney Plus. WandaVision received a great response from the audience which paved way for 23 Emmy nominations, including one for Hahn for best supporting actress in a limited series.

Hann starred as Agatha Harkness in the Disney+ miniseries WandaVision (2021), Wanda and Vision’s Nosy Neighbor, before it was revealed she was in fact Agatha, a powerful witch. WandaVision story picks up three weeks after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Wanda Maximoff and Vision are living an idyllic suburban life in the town of Westview, New Jersey, trying to conceal their true natures. As their surroundings begin to move through different decades and they encounter various television tropes, the couple suspects that things are not as they seem.

Agatha Harkness is a fictional character that first appeared in Marvel Comics. She is a powerful witch, typically portrayed as a sinister heroine and teacher of Wanda Maximoff, as well as the mother of Nicholas Scratch. Agatha is one of the original witches from the Salem witch trials who goes on to become a significant figure in the Marvel universe, protecting Franklin Richards as his nanny and later mentoring Wanda in the use of real magic. At one point, she had a familiar named Ebony, a cat-like creature that could sense the presence of mystical beings.

Variety also reported, Hahn is all set to star in a limited series in development at Showtime centered on iconic comedian Joan Rivers. Her other upcoming projects include the Apple series The Shrink Next Door and the Rian Johnson feature Knives Out- two.

The Agatha Harkness series will join the slate of Marvel shows on Disney+, including the yet-to-premiere Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Secret Invasion, Armor Wars, Ironheart, Echo and an untitled Wakanda series.
