Warner Bros and DC film is coming up with a new Black Canary movie at HBO Max starring Jurnee Smollet, while Misha Green will pen the script for the movie.
Black Canary is produced by Sue Kroll movie under her Kroll and Co. entertainment banner. Kroll also produced Birds of Prey.
However the plot details are not revealed yet. The film is a spin-off of Birds of Prey, which featured characters like Harley Quinn, the Huntress, and Cassandra Cain.
Green and Smollett confirmed the news on Twitter with Smollett writing, “Guess the Canary is out of the cage! So excited to finally embark on this adventure with my creative soul sis @MishaGreen.”
Green added, “We’re just at the very beginning of a loooong journey to the screen, but obvs I couldn’t turn down the chance to put the DAMN in The Black Damn Canary with @jurneesmollett!”
The character has appeared in DC comics since the 1940s, and is known for her power of ultrasonic screams, also called the Canary Cry.
HBO Max is developing several DC superhero movies, including Batgirl starring Leslie Grace and Blue Beetle starring Xolo Maridueña.
Green and Smollett are both repped by CAA with Smollett also repped by Management 360.
