iDoodle Studio based in New Delhi and Faridabad is all set to launch their debut Graphic Novel- Chronicles of Trioat the 2nd Annual Comic Con. There will be 2 more books in this series continuing the story ahead which would be launched in May-June this year. 5 different artists worked on the first book and which took about 3 months and a half for completion.
Talking to AnimationXpress.com Aiswarya Mukherjee, Design Head, iDoodle Studio shares, “The artwork used in this particular book is a totally new concept in India. We have illustrated 2D characters over handmade realistic miniature sets for each and every background and shot them and composited them into one. Each of the sets were researched and detailed step by step. We chose the medium of graphic novel because we feel only a graphic novel can lend justice to the kind of artwork we wanted to do.”
‘Chronicles of Trio’ is about heroes who are very ordinary people and their journey across the parallel worlds. Aiswarya had come up with the concept but the Studio eventually hired a writer, George Elder to pen down a story along those lines.
About the challenges faced Aiswarya asserts, “Initially there were a number of challenges like choosing the correct material to build a set to give it the realistic feel we were looking forward to and there were a lot of hits and misses before we finalized and meticulously detailed each of those sets just how we wanted.”
iDoodle Studio is a joint collaboration by like minded artists and is not owned by one. Initially 3 artists, Aiswarya, Suraj Singh and Rajni Sharma started the studio in 2009. Soon other friends joined the happy family and now there are about 5 people.
About launching the book at Comic Con Aiswarya says, “We had been an audience to the first Indian Comic Convention and we saw that the reaction of the crowd was tremendous, unlike the popular belief that comic world has receded. We just hope that our work gets appreciated and it appeals to the crowd as much as our esteemed peers and really look forward to make a mark in the Indian comic industry”.
iDoodle Studio has also done loads of children illustrations, advertisements, commissioned personalized artwork. It has published 3 books in the USA too. Currently the studio is working on a new set of fairy tales, the stories of which are quite different from the original ones and will be released soon.
