Warner Bros. Discovery announces ‘Red vs. Blue: Restoration’ digital release and teaser

Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment (WBDHE) has revealed the digital date of and teaser for the 19th and final season of the web series, Red vs. Blue: Restoration. Unlike previous seasons, Red vs. Blue: Restoration will be released on 7 May in its entirety as a full-length film.

After a four-year hiatus, renowned co-creator Burnie Burns has returned to pen the final chapter of Red vs. Blue, reuniting with director Matt Hullum to bring closure to a narrative spanning over two decades.

“I’m thrilled to return for Red vs. Blue: Restoration, and to conclude this incredible twenty-one year journey with our longtime fans,” said Burns. “Red vs. Blue has been a cornerstone of Rooster Teeth’s legacy, and we’re immensely proud of what we’ve accomplished together,” added Hullum.

WBDHE also unveiled a teaser and official synopsis, offering a glimpse into the epic conclusion:
When the universe’s greatest villain returns in a terrifying new form, old adversaries, the Reds and Blues of Blood Gulch, will have to set aside their differences to save the galaxy one last time.

Red vs. Blue is a comedy web series set in the universe of the Xbox video game franchise, Halo, where two teams, Red and Blue, engage in a perpetual conflict in a desolate canyon. Led by the bumbling Sarge and the cynical Church, the soldiers navigate absurd situations and misunderstandings with a mix of humour and sci-fi elements.

Since its inception over twenty years ago, the web series – created by Rooster Teeth Productions – has garnered a dedicated following. The show’s concept uses machinima, the art of creating animations using video game engines, particularly from the Halo franchise.

Red vs. Blue‘s enduring popularity can be attributed to its witty writing, compelling characters, and clever blend of humour and action. Over the years, it has evolved from a simple comedy series to a richly layered narrative, engaging viewers with its intricate plotlines and character development. Its longevity and cultural impact serve as a testament to the power of creativity and community in the digital age.

Red vs. Blue: Restoration will be available to purchase from Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Vudu and more. It will be available to rent digitally on 21 May.
