Studio Eeksaurus’ animated short film ‘Sri Aurobindo: A New Dawn’ to tell the forgotten tale of freedom

Mumbai based animation Studio Eeksaurus in association with Sri Aurobindo society is coming up with a new short film Sri Aurobindo: A New Dawn to celebrate and honour the incredible journey of the extra ordinary freedom fighter Aurobindo.

One of India’s leading animation studio, Studio Eeksaurus, holds many credits under its belt for their work in animated short films like Fisherwoman and Tuk-Tuk, Tokri and many more. Animation Xpress had a chance to interact with Studio Eeksaurus founder and creative director Suresh Eriyat to know more about his upcoming animated short film whose trailer was released last week.

The two and half minute long animated trailer features the young and ferocious Aurobindo and also showcases the brutal rule of the British in India before Independence. The short is based on the forgotten chapter of the freedom movement and fighter Aurobindo.

The animated short film is under work since January. “We have been working on it since January. It will take another year to complete it,” said Eriyat.

On asking what inspired him to make a film on Aurobindo, Eriyat said, “This is a film for Sri Aurobindo Society. In 2022 we celebrate his 150th birth anniversary. We are making a long film to launch it on his birthday which coincides with our Independence Day, 15 August. Aurobindo always remains an inspirational figure and to discover and popularise his unknown story amongst the youth is our collective objective.”

He also added that this film will dwell into a very important phase of Aurobindo’s life.

The short film is directed by Suresh Eriyat, Nilima Eriyat serves as executive producer. Original music score done by London based musician Shri and Vijay Kumar and academy winner Resul Pookutty serve as sound engineers, with visual design provided by Nijin Nazeem and Rajib Mandal.

Commenting about his association with Pookutty, Eriyat said, “Resul is extremely gracious and supportive while working on our projects. He and his team along with Vijay Kumar have added immense amount of value to our film. I am extremely happy with the way the sound gives so much life to our drawings in the animation film.”

Shedding light on the future plans of the studio, Eriyat revealed, “We are currently working on a few short film projects along with a couple of intense ad film projects. Also we are developing a few titles for the OTT platforms since there have been an overwhelming demand from them to partner with them to create novel content. There is also an ambitious feature film in animation that is in the process of development since more than a year. Of course there are many other stories that are waiting to be made into films.”

Sri Aurobindo: A New Dawn is all set to release in 15 August 2022.

Sri Aurobindo society is actively raising funds for the successful completion of the film.
