Soon, somewhere in the near future, there will come a time when Animation Film Makers will go ahead and win the national awards and be conferred the grand honor of the Prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award as well. Meanwhile, Shemaroo Entertainment’s Animated Feature Super K has recently won an award for the Best Feature Film – Animation category at the ‘Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival – 2012’. Organized by Noida Institute of Engineering and Technology, the festival which is also named after DadaSaheb Phalke, was held on Apr 29-30, 2012 at Greater Noida.

Super K is conceptualized & produced by Smita Maroo, Directed by Vijay Bhanushali, Music Director Firoze Patel and Written by Vibha Singh & Jaspinder Singh Kang. The competition had more than 250 entries across categories.

The film is Shemaroo’s first animation home production and it had its in-house expertise to handle the complete pre-production work of the movie. The production of the film was done in India, Middle East and Singapore. They had a team of more than 100 people involved at various stages of the project who worked for almost 3 years to complete the film.

Talking to AnimationXpress.com Vijay Bhanushali, Director of Super K, shared, “It was an extremely proud moment for all of us to be honored with Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the Best Feature Film – Animation category. We are glad that our contribution to the animation industry has been recognized and appreciated on a prestigious platform like this. Super K was initially released online. The film was premiered exclusively on Yahoo! Movieplex, the premium video destination of Yahoo! India, on 11 November 2011. This was an exclusive online release of the kids’ animation film in India where one can watch it for free. The film was later released on other online platforms like Youtube, Daily Motion and DVD platform as well. The film is acquired by a Canadian company that will distribute it across different platforms in North America and Canada. The rights of the film is also sold in South America, Middle East and parts of Asia. Super K has crossed all over the International Market.”

He further added, “The best part of releasing the film online is that the film is still alive and can be watched online any time, any place something that most films releasing in theatres cannot claim beyond the first 2 weeks. We are still receiving good response going by the views online. We have received positive response from our business partners and advertisers. We had several brand partners like Parle G, Yahoo! India, Diamond comics, Zee Institute of Creative Arts, The Teenager and Radio One among others. Also the movie has picked up well in the audience. “Super K” has opened new avenues for the fast growing Indian entertainment business. This pioneering initiative by Shemaroo is expected to give a fresh lease of life to kids’ animation filmmakers.”

The main USP of Super K is its central theme – there is a super hero in every child if they just learn to focus on their abilities. With the tagline, ‘Some Heroes are born while Super K was created’, the film features a super hero who is created and a goof-up causes him to turn out to be a freak, who is unable to control his powers. The story of ‘Super K’ explores his magical escapades in Dreamzone, with an interesting mix of action, comedy and fantasy. As Badmess along with the evil Dr. Ozox plans to take over Dreamzone, ‘Super K’ has to team up with his friends and also learn to control his powers.

Super K has been invited to several international film festivals like Animabassuri – Animassia – Spain, Cairo International Film Festival For Children and Hiroshima Film Festival for Screening. Super K has been recognized and nominated by the jury members of CIFFC.
