Founded around a year ago by Akash Reddy, Evon D’Gama – Reddy & Thomas Cherian, the staple for SciClone has been designing and styling TVCs. Of late the studio has bagged a few International TVCs involving hi end CG including a commercial for Underground Music movement.

The studio is also in the midst of completing a 3D animated short which it would have showcased at SIGGRAPH, but for some rendering work that is pending.

SciClone director Akash Reddy told Animation ‘xpress “The Underground Music Movement TVC involves some hi end CG which includes a 3D ant and a lot of fluid simulations and compositing. Besides the TVC we are also in the midst of completing our 3D animated short Hound-Dawg which has been executed in XSI”

“Hound-Dawg is inspired by Elvis’ version of Hound Dog, which is probably one of the most influential rock songs of the 20th century. The duration of the short is a little over a minute and the main characters of the film are Elvis and Ernie” he added.

Sciclone which has done about a dozen Colgate TVCs alone in the past 9 months, besides other commercials for Tide, Fair & lovely, Samsung, Nutrine, ABN Amro etc is warming up to take a plunge into long format and other animation work.

“We are very interested in getting into full fledged hi end animation work and Hound-Dawg showcases our skill sets and show off something which is really of high standards. The short displays how well we can execute details of secondary motion, the shots have been looked at in a very deep perspective” remarked Reddy

“Hound-Dawg took about 20 days with 12 people working on it” he added.

3D animated shorts are the best way for a studio to showcase its skills and to ingrain in the artists a culture of working from concept to screen. The international studios are always on the lookout for good shorts that are showcased at events like SIGGRAPH and for a studio to complete a short and showcase it at international events means a good way of getting in business.
