Ethan Hawke to voice Batman in DC’s upcoming preschool animated series ‘Batwheels’

At San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), the first trailer for the upcoming animated series titled Batwheels, which will feature Batman and his family’s iconic cars, was unveiled. On Saturday, September 17 2022, also known as Batman Day, this first animated Batman preschool series will debut.

The Comics are Fun for Everyone panel, which took place at SDCC 2022, opened with ‘Meet the Batwheels‘ and featured a sneak peek of the upcoming series. In the soon-to-be-released animated series, the Batwheels, a band of sentient superpowered cars that fight with Batman, Robin, and Batgirl to defend Gotham City, and battle crime. Along with Bam the Batmobile, Bibi the Batgirl Cycle, Redbird Robin’s Sports Car, and Batwing the Batwing Jet Plane, the group also consists of Buff the Bat Truck. The first episode of the series will be a half-hour prequel episode titled Secret origin of the Batwheels, which will examine the history and background of the titular team as well as how the Batwheels team came to be.

The new series teaser video has a colourful montage paired to an incredibly catchy tune. An action-packed introduction to the four-wheeled fighters of crime who can turn on a dime are presented as they defend the city streets from bad guys like the Joker. The Batwheels trailer presents a more neon-lit cityscape, which will not only pique the curiosity of the target preschool audience but may also be visually appealing for their parents. This is in stark contrast to the gloomy and sombre Gotham we see in adult-oriented material. The trailer gives viewers a glimpse of both the human heroes, most notably Batman, as well as the sentient, crime-fighting machines.

In addition to Hawke as Batman, the voice cast for Batwheels also features Gina Rodriguez as Catwoman, Jacob Bertand as Bam the Batmobile, and Xolo Mariduea as Snowy the Snowcrawler. The series’ executive producer is Sam Register from Looney Tunes Cartoons, with co-executive producers Michael G. Stern from Doc McStuffins and Simon J. Smith from Penguins of Madagascar. Producer Steven Fink works for Bang Zoom Ltd. Warner Bros. Animation and Superprod Studio collaborate on the creation of Batwheels.

Batwheels will make its debut on Cartoonito on Cartoon Network and Cartoonito on HBO Max.
