‘Encanto’ grosses $7.5 million on its opening day

Encanto topped the Wednesday box office, $7.5 million in its first full day of release. Disney film has heavy competition over the Thanksgiving holiday with MGM’s star-studded crime drama House of Gucci, which brought in a solid $4.2 million. However Encanto’s opening collection is comparatively low when compared with other Disney movie like Tangled (2010) collected $11 million, Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018) grossed $18 million.

Marvel’s Eternals grossed $1.9 million on Wednesday, bringing the superhero film’s total to $141.1 million.

According to reports, Encanto is expected to top the box office and generate $35 million to $40 million over the five-day period.

Encanto story follows the magic of the Encanto that has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel. But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope.

The voice cast includes María Cecilia Botero, Wilmer Valderrama, Adassa, Diane Guerrero, Mauro Castillo, Angie Cepeda, Jessica Darrow, Rhenzy Feliz and Carolina Gaitan.

The film features all-new songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton,Moana) and is directed by Byron Howard (Zootopia,Tangled) and Jared Bush (co-director Zootopia), co-directed by Charise Castro Smith (The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez) and produced by Clark Spencer and Yvett Merino. Bush and Castro Smith are screenwriters on the film.
