Disney+ Rebooting Darkwing Duck

A reboot of the 1990s’animated action-adventure comedy series Darkwing Duck is reportedly in the works at Disney+. The project is in early development at Disney Television Animation. No writer is currently attached to the project, but according to reports, it will be executive produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Alex McAtee of Point Grey Pictures.

The original “Darkwing Duck” was created by Tad Stones. It ran from 1991-1992 on The Disney Afternoon syndicated programming block and on Saturday mornings on ABC for three seasons and 91 episodes. The series followed the adventures of Darkwing Duck, the superhero alter-ego of ordinary duck Drake Mallard. He is assisted by his sidekick and pilot Launchpad McQuack and sometimes by his adopted daughter, Gosalyn. The show featured the voices of Jim Cummings as Darkwing Duck, Christine Cavanaugh as Gosalyn, and Terry McGovern as Launchpad.

The show is connected to the animated series “DuckTales,” with Launchpad appearing in both the original “DuckTales” and the recent reboot. Darkwing and Gosalyn also appeared in the reboot.
Disney Television Animation’s latest project was Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe. It is also working on a revival of The Proud Family.

Point Grey produces the Showtime comedy “Black Monday,” which was recently renewed for a third season and the hit comic book adaptation “The Boys” on Amazon. The show has been greenlit for a third season and an after-show as well as a spinoff.
