CGTantra powers first Indian Animation Marathon at Lumi?re Digitale of DSK Supinfocom

The 36 Hours Animation Marathon at Lumi?re Digitale, DSK Supinfocom Campus from 2nd to 4th Dec 2011, conceived and powered by CGTantra is the first ever attempt of such a format in India. The idea is to create a production like environment for the 10 competing student teams and have them deliver the best of CGI 3D Animation sequence within a stipulated time of 36 hours. The Marathon will be “Flagged off” at 5pm on 2nd Dec 2011 and go on till 5am on 4th Dec 2011. The Final entries will be judged during a Jury screening and the winners will be announce at the Awards Ceremony on 4th Evening.

There will be many luminaries from animation industry worldwide who will come and take sneak peek at the work being done as well as give suggestions. With the Producers and Buyers Summit powered by AnimationXpress.com also happening at the venue as well as the excellent lineup of speakers during the conference, the competing teams can expect to bump into the legends of Global Animation industry.

The Competing 10 Selected Student Teams will be pre-selected based on their Team Reels reviewed by The Animation Marathon Team mentors and then they have to come to the venue and take part in this challenge. The Last Date to register is 27th Nov. The Selected Team names will be announced by 28th Nov. The competition is open for animators from anywhere.

Talking to AnimationXpress.com RK Chand, Co-Founder of CGTantra shares, “Well, selection of the final Competing Teams will be based on the same that a recruiter or animation head looks at while reviewing an animation showreel. Evidence of Team character animation abilities such as character walk cycle, lip sync, acting, and a range of characters are of prime importance”.

Each Team must identify the work on the demo reel with the name of the animators responsible and the names of any other artists who participated on the shot. Shots must be the work of animators seeking participation in the Animation Marathon without fail. All finalists will be informed about the details by mail and a Team Lead has to be appointed in the beginning at the venue as well.

“The final competing teams have to come to the venue, DSK Supinfocom campus and after that till the Animation Marathon ends, the organizers will provide stay, refreshments, food and lots of distraction and exciting events during the course of DSK Supinfomania. But its upto the teams to plan and decide on where they want to best utilize their 36 hours – in animating or in food, sleep, rest or Enjoyment in order to come out as the Winner!!”, Chand adds.

The idea of the challenge is to announce the theme right at the beginning of the marathon. That will make it more challenging as all teams need to put their creativity and talent in animation from scratch and use it to the best in the time bound contest. The rigged characters, stationaries, computers, software and other requisite materials will be provided at the venue. Once the final sequences are submitted, the jury will decide the Top 3 Winners who will take away the exciting prizes during the Final Awards Ceremony.

He further adds, “In the first year of 36 Hour Animation Marathon, we are aiming to deliver the best experience to the competing teams and make the students realize that animation is not just about making keys and moving characters. It is a combination of teamwork, right spirit of competition, sense of design, mood, character and storytelling as well as command over the tools in the software which can take it to the next level”.

There are lots of exciting prizes and goodies to be won at the 36 Hours Animation marathon. But the one that is the most Eye Popping is the CASH PRIZE of INR 50,000 for the Winner, INR 15,000 for the 1st Runner Up and INR 5,000 for the 2nd Runner up. Besides this the organizers are also trying to rope in Studio Partners to have Studio Internships as prizes as well. Digitales Studios, Mumbai has already confirmed and there are going to be more by the eve of the Challenge.

“The Animation Marathon Challenge has been conceived and organized by CGTantra with huge support from DSK Supinfocom Animation Team and Management. Though we had been trying to organize something like this for a number of years now, we usually ended up doing shorter formats as a day event. Thanks to the support of all amenities and platform provided during DSK Supinfomania, the CGTantra Team and our Events partner CreateInk are all set to set camp in the lovely DSk Supinfocom Campus, Pune for those 3 days and help pump up the competing teams and make it a grand success. Hope to make it a regular annual affair at Lumi?re Digitale, DSK Supinfocom Campus, Pune”, Chand concludes.
