Animation Dimensions acquires Katha Animation, scales to 300

Indo – US animation company Animation Dimensions has acquired Mumbai based Katha Animation last week. With the acquisition of Katha, the total team strength of the studio is now 300 artists across four facilities in India (One in Mumbai, Two in Chennai and One in Thiruvananthapuram)

Led by prolific Animation Personality Elizabeth Koshy, Animation Dimensions specializes in Flash animation and besides its animation production services business is also involved big time in IP creation.

Speaking to AnimationXpress.com at the FICCI Seminar at Thiruvananthapuram, Animation Dimenions Founder and CEO Elizabeth Koshy shared “Animation Dimensions is very glad to announce the inclusion of Katha into our fold. With this our total team size is now close to 300 artists”

“Katha has been developing some extremely interesting IP like Once upon a time and The Sea Prince and this is one of the primary reasons for us to acquire the studio”

Headed by Prakash Nambiar, Katha Animation came into the spotlight for the animation it did for the Yashraj Films super hit Hum Tum, which besides Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukherjee featured two animated comic strip characters Hum & Tum.

Elaborating on the IP bit, Koshy spoke about Animation Dimensionsâ€? various original content projects including Creepie which is co produced with US Major Mike Young Productions and airs on Discovery Kids. “Creepies is probably one of the most complex and rich flash animation TV shows in the world” she said.

Other original content projects under development at Animation Dimensions include Loin & Mona Darling, The Hammer and Bullseye.

Loin and Mona Darling are based on the famous Loin jokes by Ajit. The show has a very stylish look and has limited animation. Giving some insight into the styling of the show, Koshy pointed out that since the Loin jokes would be understood probably only in India, it would not be economically viable to do full blown animation and hence a stylised version was created wherein the studio would get a unique look for the show as well as manage to produce at a decent cost.

A few months back, Animation Dimensions had also acquired Chennai based Dessin Works which had a strong pre production team.

The latest in the list of Animation Dimensionsâ€? studios is its newly started Thiruvananthapuram facility. “Our Thiruvananthapuram studio located at the Animation Special Economic Zone at Kinfra Film and Video Park and has become fully functional recently” shared Koshy.

Currently 38 artists from Thiruvananthapuram are training at Animation Dimensions Mumbai facility. The company plans to scale up its Kerala operations and is targeting to have a 100 member team in the Kerala facility within the next six months.
