‘Deadpool’ outdoes everyone to become the highest grossing R-rated movie worldwide

The superhero movie that received both criticism and applause surprised the audience as it showcased probably what they didn’t expect from a typical Marvel Comic superhero film. And, the film has once again startled the audience with its outlandish performance at the box office thus overcoming all expectations.

Deadpool has become the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time at the worldwide box office. The 20 Century Fox film, starring Ryan Reynolds or rather Wade Wilson as the red masked Deadpool, has earned nearly $746 million at the box office across the globe.

Deadpool has set a new record has it outdid The Matrix Reloaded (2003), which grossed $742.1 million worldwide to become the highest grossing R-rated film all over. The Matrix Reloaded sustained its record for thirteen years until now when the blockbuster Deadpool topped the chart. Moreover, the superhero quirky action comedy is still running in theatres successfully which indicates that it will garner more moolah leaving the 2003 film far behind.

Directed by Tim Miller, Deadpool opened in theatres on 12 February, 2016 both in USA and India. It has earned $349.5 domestically till date and is still only the third highest grossing R-rated movie as far the domestic box office is concerned. The Passion of the Christ (2004) which earned $370.8 million is the highest grossing R-rated movie domestically followed by American Sniper (2014) which collected $350.1 million. Still, if you compare the numbers you realise that Deadpool is not far away from overtaking these films and breaking their record to become the highest grossing R-rated movie domestically too.

As far as the R- rated concept is concerned, Deadpool is funny, heartfelt, and astoundingly different from what Marvel and DC typically produce. Reynolds has delivered a phenomenal performance through his witty, slapstick character and Wade has borne the tortuous mutation experiment to explode into something highly bizarre. It can be said that the R-rated factor and outrageous sense of humour is maintained throughout the film which deserves the success it is currently witnessing at the box office. And, let’s not forget the fact that Deadpool is still quirking at the theatres only to set new records and break the other few left.
