Reliance World sets National Record with online Gaming Championship

Gaming buffs fiercely contested for GAMEBOX National Championship 2007 on 28 January, one of India�s biggest online gaming challenges. Organised by Reliance World, the championship was held in 240 Reliance World outlets across 104 cities between January 16 and 28, 2007.

“The success of GAMEBOX National Championship 2007 is an exciting glimpse into the future of online sporting events of the country. Our aim is to provide a right platform to the emerging gaming enthusiasts of the country and make India the most exciting gaming hub on the global map,” said Sunil Buch, Head Marketing & Product Management, Reliance World.

In the National finals at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi today, the five-member team “A. T. E. – Accuracy, Teamwork, Experience” comprising of Ben Varghesi, 19, Mikhail Mehra, 21, Hasnain Sayed, 16, Ritesh Shah, 19 and Amar Ratnan, 19, from Mumbai, emerged the winner of COUNTER STRIKE: 1.6.

Sat S. Mayekar, a 17 year old from Mumbai won the Need For Speed-Underground Championship, while another Mumbaikar, Sagar, won WARCRAFT III: FROZEN THRONE. 21 year old, Garav Dhillion first year BCA student from Chandigarh won, Half Life 2: Death Match, was winner Garav Dhillion, age 21. The popular Age of Mythology Championship, was won by a 20 year old engineering student, Ashish Shinde, another winner from Mumbai.

In all 36 contestants from 15 cities made their way to the National Finals. Worldâ€?s No.1 Counter Strike Gaming team, Fnatic, played exhibition matches with the National winners of the Championship. The National Gamebox Championship 2007 was contested at four levels – local, circle, zonal and national, between January 16 and 28, 2007. The Championship included popular games such as Counter Strike 1.6, Half Life 2: Death Match, Need for Speed: Underground, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne and The Age of Mythology.
