Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman look on ‘Supergirl’ season 2 revealed

Superman-1st-Look-SupergirlIn the past couple of weeks, we have been hearing a lot about Superman making an entry in the second season of Supergirl. And finally, The CW has released the first official look at Tyler Hoechlin as Superman on Supergirl.

In season one, Supergirl played by Melissa Benoist could be seen exchanging texts, however his physical presence was missed. He’s always been depicted as a silhouette or a blur of motion.

“I think it’s the perfect time,” Benoist said at Comic-Con International in San Diego. “All of the interactions (Kara) had with him last season through the instant messaging and the texting, it never felt like enough to me. Their relationship is important, and they’re family and she has things that he doesn’t and he has things that she doesn’t. They’re only going to reap benefits from each other. I’m so excited about it.”

The character of Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent, will first be seen visiting his cousin Kara in National City at the beginning of the series’ second season. Tyler Hoechlin’s costume as Superman has been designed by Kiersten Ronning, and draws inspiration from the New 52’s version of the costume, with a red belt instead of red trunks and muted colours.

“I think the fun is going to be finding where Clark Kent is in this world. I’m just excited to find out Clark’s sense of humour,” Hoechlin said of the character.

While it hasn’t been explicitly stated, the obvious reason for Superman’s visit to National City is the crash-landing of a Kryptonian escape pod not unlike the ones he and Supergirl used to get away from the dying world. The pod touched down on the outskirts of National City just hours after a Kryptonian uprising was quelled and Earth’s population was freed of the influence of a Kryptonian mind-control satellite.

The second season of Supergirl is set to premiere on The CW on 10 October.
