The kids’ genre gears up for an engaging Independence day!

Indian Independence day kindles emotions and evokes a deep sense of respect for the mighty warriors who unchained the nation from the clutches of the British 67 years ago.  Parades, hoisting of the tricolour, singing patriotic songs and the national anthem, watching patriot tableaus constitutes most of the Independence Day celebrations. Drawing inspiration from these colourful celebrations, the kids’ genre in the broadcast space has created an array of special programs to join hands with its little audience and salute the nation together. Let’s take a look at what different channels are doing this Independence Day.

The kids’ cluster of channels of Sun TV Network:-

Chutti TV (Tamil wing) had conducted a human chain rally for children on 10 August along its famous beach line-Besant Nagar, to celebrate the theme of freedom and friendship. Hundreds of enthusiastic school children had participated in this rally and many of them had brought with them, paintings of the Indian flag, which they were proudly waving during the event. Groups of children breaking into impromptu session of singing famous patriotic songs added colour to this event. Famous lyricist Madan Karky and director Atlee graced the occasion and shared inspiring words with the children. This event will be aired on Chutti TV on 15 August at 9:30 am and a repeat telecast at 4:30 pm. This apart special snippets of children dressed as freedom fighters voicing Independence Day messages and movie marathon session will form a part of the Independence Day special celebration on the channel.

The Malayalam channel, Kochu TV has painted a colourful line up for the big day. Excerpts of Independence Day special programs at various schools will be aired along with a compilation of children’s definition of independence. The famous Pink Panther series will be launched on this day. The highlight will be the unveiling of an interactive game show Run Singoo, where the channel’s favourite mascot Singoo comes to life with the state of the art motion capture technology. It will be the first time ever that an interactive game show based on this technology will be introduced on a channel in this genre. Run Singoo will be launched on 15 August between 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. Movie fans; can feast on the mighty Anaconda and the charming Smurfs 2 on the occasion as well.

The Kannada channel Chintu TV has scheduled specials to mark the spirit of freedom. While The Real Indian show will test the general knowledge of kids and their awareness about freedom fighters, Senior junior, which will have celebrities participating along with their children, will feature interesting games and tasks like kids shopping for their parents and parents in turn cooking what they think is the most favourite meal to meet the challenge of how well the parent-children duo know each other. Maa Tuje Salaam will mark Chintu TV’s special celebration of the Independence Day with children singing patriotic songs and hosting the national flag and Role Model will feature opinions of children on who is their role model.

Kushi TV (Telugu) in a bid to assess children’s knowledge about India and its glorious history will host a special program How much you know India. In this anchor-based, road show, children are asked questions relating to the nation and are rewarded with a special gift, if they know all the answers.

The kids’ cluster of channels of Disney India:- 

The Disney stable will be running special ‘Happy Independence Day’ aston bands on Disney Channel India as well as Hungama TV during the day.

There are a few special movies lined up on the action brand of Disney XD under the title of ‘Azaad Panchi’, which include movies like Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and Shrek beginning from 10:00 am.

The little ones will get to witness a marathon of Sofia The First beginning at 2:00 pm on Disney Junior under the special title of ‘Set free with Sofia’.

The kids’ cluster of channels of Turner India:- 

Cartoon Network, the oldest brother of the kids’ channels, has an action packed line-up on the occasion of Independence Day. Starting at 12:00 pm, 16 August will let children fascinated with cars to enjoy the movie ‘Tarzan – The Wonder Car’ and on 17 August kids can enjoy the animated feature film ‘Hanuman Returns’, under the special segment of Cartoon Network Popcorn.

The fans of Oggy and Kris can celebrate the spirit of being an Indian on 15 August, 12:00 pm onwards by participating in the various contests on www.cartoonnetworkindia.com and stand a chance to win exciting prizes.

Pogo, on the other hand is going all out with a premiere of four tele-features beginning from 15 August running up to 18 August at 12:00 pm all days. The movies lined-up include ‘Mighty Raju In Hijack’, ‘Mera Bharat Mahaan’, ‘Chhota Bheem and the Mayavi Gorgon’ and ‘Shor Machaye Maakhanchor’.

Apart from just watching these films, kids will also be able to participate in contests during the premieres and stand a chance to win amazing prizes like bicycles, PSPs, etc.

Well, it certainly seems the channels are all set to engage with kids this Independence Day, with not just a great line-up of shows and movies but also some mouth watering contests.
