STX Entertainment’s UglyDolls will have its leading role being voiced by a Grammy-Award winning artist, Kelly Clarkson. STXfilms, a division of STX Entertainment, will release UglyDolls in theatres in 2019. Previously, Clarkson has voiced the role of Leah in Columbia Pictures’ 2017 animated Christmas film The Star. Clarkson has more than 25 million albums sold since winning the first American Idol. The animated feature is based on the plush toy line by David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim, which was named Toy of the Year by the Toy Industry Association in 2006. STX’s plan to release UglyDolls theatrically in 2019 is with hopes of launching a franchise. An animated kid’s series is under making with a full series order from Hulu, and Hasbro has joined early on as global master toy licensee.

The original motion picture soundtrack will be released by Atlantic Records. Pitbull will perform original songs written for the film and provide original music.

The story revolves around the protagonist is Moxy (Clarkson) who along with her UglyDolls/friends confront what it means to be different. Together, they struggle with their desire to be loved and discovering who truly they are.

“The UglyDolls universal message celebrating our differences and individuality really resonates with me, and when STX showed me how incredible UglyDolls will look and feel, I jumped at being part of that world,” Clarkson said in a statement. “I can’t wait to start working with the team at STX, the cast, and filmmakers.”
