Iconic band ‘Josie and the Pussycats’ set to rock the comic world again in September

Josie and the Pussycats roomAfter being shot to death, we thought this would be the last we saw of the red haired goofy guy Archie. However, last year it was revealed that Archie will be back in a new resurrected version by Mark Waid and Fiona Staples. Since its launch, the comic series has been getting a good response and now we hear yet another great news. The company has just announced that the iconic rock band Josie and the Pussycats are getting an ongoing series set in the same new continuity as the excellent Archie and Jughead comics.

It will follow the suit as the rest of the characters as Betty and Veronica are getting their own series in July whereas Josie and the Pussycats comic series, featuring the exploits of Riverdale’s most popular all-girl rock band, will be out in September. According to Archie Comics, the new series will feature Josie uniting the band to take their big shot at musical stardom, only to contend with the machinations of Alexandra Cabot, the ever-Machiavellian daughter of the Pussycats’ manager.

Here’s the text for the first issue, from an official press release: Friends, countrymen, lend me your long tails and ears for hats—the Pussycats are back! In this series kick-off, Josie’s getting the band together to help achieve her dreams of musical stardom. But for the group to last, it needs a strong foundation of friendship and trust. Can the girls get going, or will Alexandra’s plotting put a stop to the whole thing? Don’t miss comics’ supreme songstresses’ return to the limelight in this exciting first issue!

The series will be co-written by Marguerite Bennett and Cameron DeOrdio and the art will be given by Audrey Mok. Mok also drew the cover of the first issue, but as with Betty and Veronica, Josie and the Pussycats #1 will also feature variant covers from fellow Archie Comics artists Veronica Fish (Archie) and Francesco Francavilla (Afterlife with Archie).

Josie and the Pussycats #1 hits comic stores on 28 September.
