Disney found their ‘Moana’ in a 14-year old Hawaiian girl

The quest to find the perfect voice for Disney’s upcoming animated movie Moana has finally come to rest at Hawaii where Disney found the 14 year old, Hawaiian teenager, Auli’i Cravalho. Auli’i will be giving her voice to the movie’s protagonist, Moana along with Dwayne Johnson (The Rock, Fast And Furious 7). Walt Disney Animation went through a series of hundreds of auditions to find the right voice for the lead character ‘Moana’ for the film and finally found the perfect voice in the young Auli’i.

1E7E457F‘Dreams come true’ is rightly displayed in the life of the teenager as she says, “From baby time to now, I wanted to be a Disney princess and then I wanted to be a singer or an actress. Moana is such an amazing character. She’s brave, she is so empowered, she knows what she wants and she’s not afraid to get it, and I think that’s something that I can relate to as well. I just love watching how she goes along in this wonderful movie and grows as a person and helps her culture along the way.”

From Hawaii to Disney, Auli’i was awestruck when she got the news that she was selected for the role. “I didn’t think I would have a chance,” said an excited Cravalho. “When I was little, I used to dance around the house singing at the top of my lungs. In my mind, that was performing and I loved the feeling of it. But I never imagined being in a Disney movie, being Moana — representing my culture in that way.”

With the adventurous minds of John Muster and Ron Clements, Directors of The Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and The Princess and the Frog, ‘Moana’ is a computer animated musical adventure across a series of islands in the South Pacific. Moana Waialiki, the lead character, is a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. During this quest, she encounters ‘Maui’, a powerful but friendly demi-god (Dwayne Johnson) that aids in her quest for the fabled isle, encountering magnificent vistas and dangerous sea monsters along the way.

So, the combination of the tough heavy voice of Dwayne Johnson and the soft tender voice of the young newcomer Auli’i will mesmerize the audience portraying the feel of an adventurous voyage. Moana produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures will hit the theatres on 23 November, 2016.
