Base FX spills the beans on Captain America – The Winter Soldier’s VFX work

Marvel seems to be spilling the beans by breaking-down the months of hard work in creating some of the most awe-inspiring visuals for their live-action superhero tent-poles. After Luma Pictures recently released the complete VFX breakdown video behind visually crafting the Galatic Super-villain, Thanos in Guardians of The Galaxy (2014), Beijing based Visual Effects and Animation studio, Base FX released a two-minute video illustrating their mammoth contribution in the Visual Effects for Captain America – The Winter Solider (2014).

Working in close alliance with the lead Visual Effects studio, Asia’s leading VFX studio, Base FX supervised 368 visual shots from bidding through completion to the overall look development across several key scenes.

With over 400 employees and 20 US theatrical film credits including GI Joe Retaliation, Identity Thief, Olympus Has Fallen, Looper, Mission Impossible, Base FX has won credible accolades over the last few years (three time Emmy Award winning visual effects and animation studio).

The over-two minute reel presents a quick sample of the creative-scene structuring worked upon by the talent pool at Base FX. The visual effects in the third act of the film formed the bulk of Base FX’s contribution including structurally animating the hell-carriers and the final mid-air climatic battle sequences between Captain America (Chris Evans) and his arch nemesis, The Winter Solider (Sebastian Stan). The video quickly glides through the step-by-step process of recreating the watchdog organization, S.H.I.E.L.D’s headquarters in Washington D.C.In certain sequences, Captain’s glorifying American shield too was digitally created for added visual effects.

Helmed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo, the sequel Captain America – The Winter Solider grossed over $700 million world-wide raking in profits for the studio that shelved approximately $170 million over the tent-pole of which a meaty chunk does flow in through creating the larger-than-life visual effects.Using the latest VFX technology, Base FX rendered some visually arresting scenes from the super-action flick including digitally re-creating the flying fortress (Hell-Carriers) and the stunning advanced holographic user-face tech at the base headquarters, all carefully crafted using the green-screen animation technology.

Here’s the demo-reel presented by Base FX unraveling the artwork behind Marvel’s critically one of the best movies, Captain America – The Winter Solider.
