Marvel ropes in Chinaka Hodge as ‘Ironheart’ head writer

Chinaka Hodge

Marvel has brought on board Chinaka Hodge as head writer for the Disney+ series, Ironheart, Variety has reported.

Ironheart will star Dominique Thorne as the Marvel character Riri Williams, a genius inventor and the creator of the most advanced suit of armour since Iron Man aka Tony Stark. The series was first announced being in development during Disney’s investor day presentation in December 2020. No official comments have been made by Hodge and Marvel Studios so far.

Williams was the creation of writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato and first introduced in the Marvel Comics in 2016. In the comics, she is a 15-year-old MIT student who reverse engineers Iron Man’s armour in order to create armour of her own. Tony Stark, eventually took notice and gave her his encouragement to pursue the life of a superhero.

Hodge, a screenwriter, poet, playwright, and educator, is a known name in the television space. Her writing credits include the Apple reboot of Amazing Stories, as well as the TNT series adaptation of Snowpiercer starring Daveed Diggs. She has published two books of poetry to date, For Girls with Hips: Collected Poems and Writings and Dated Emcees, while her plays include Chasing Mehserle and Mirrors in Every Corner. She is also a founding member of the hip hop collective The Getback along with Diggs and others.

Ironheart is one of multiple Marvel-Disney+ shows currently in works that will focus on ‘Women of Colour’. Bisha K. Ali is currently working on the Ms. Marvel series coming soon on the streamer starring Iman Vellani, while Jessica Gao is leading the She-Hulk series starring Tatiana Maslany.

Marvel shows such as WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier have already launched on the streamer with great reviews, while Loki is set to release in June. Other original series in the pipeline include Hawkeye, Secret Invasion, Moon Knight, and an untitled Wakanda series.

Marvel Studios to launch ‘Infinity Saga’ box set consisting all 23 films

Marvel Studios has announced to be launching ‘Infinity Saga’ box set which will include all the 23 films culminating with Avengers: Endgame.

Kevin Feige

According to Marvel president Kevin Feige, Marvel may have a home release on the way to do just that. Feige recently teased about this giant box set of the film franchise that would include the first three phases of the universe, but the inclusion of some “really, really bad scenes.” That would be in addition to the high-quality deleted scenes that were actually heartbreaking to cut – like the Avengers (minus Gamora) kneeling for Tony Stark in Endgame.

He said, “If we do a big, giant ‘Infinity Saga’ box set, we might include – I’m assuming if you’re going to spend the money to buy a box set with everything in it, you’re a fan. And it’ll take more than a couple of really, really bad scenes to turn you.”

This step comes as now that the finished products of Marvel’s films have ruled the box-office and distinguished themselves as successes. Kevin Feige is confident enough in the series to bring the fans all the fun tidbits that didn’t make it into the theatrical versions, and they may be coming for fans ready to spend the cash on an “Infinity Saga” box set.

“I like sharing those scenes, and when we have something like that [Tony Stark tribute] that we love, and which was not an easy decision to cut out but was the best decision for the movie, it’s a great avenue to say, ‘We’ll put it out there.’ It’s not like no-one will ever see it. There are things that we think nobody should ever see. And I think we’ve just recently been discussing that now we can start to show some of our less proud moments,” Feige added.

Endgame’s home release will feature plenty of deleted scenes, including one featuring Tony Stark and his father and gag reels of the behind-the-scenes fun. It sounds like Feige wants to go back into the franchise’s past and pull out some unfortunate scenes for fans to discover.

Marvel fans are sure to love watching what could have been, and now there’ll be footage that should not have been! Treat for Marvel-fanatics!

‘Spider-Man : Far From Home’ to release on 4 June in India due to high fan demand!

Spidey arrives a day early in India! Spider-Man : Far From Home is going to release a day earlier, 4 June, in India due to unprecedented fan demand.

Although Avengers: Endgame was thought to be the conclusion of the ‘Infinity Saga’,it wasn’t the end of the first three phases of the MCU. The phase will end with Spider-Man: Far From Home, similar to that of Ant-Man that pulled curtains on Marvel Phase two following the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron

As revealed to ComicBook, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige explained, “We’ve been working for many years on Infinity War, Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Those were the films that were culminating the entire Infinity Saga of the MCU. And as we were working on Endgame we realised that the true end of the entire Infinity Saga, the final film of Phase three, had to be Spider-Man: Far From Home, because we lose Tony Stark at the end of Endgame. The relationship between Peter Parker and Tony Stark is special.”

The hype around the Avengers franchise has not been a new thing. For Spider-Man : Far From Home, the early advance bookings in India will open on 30 June. Sony Pictures Entertainment India releases Spider-Man: Far From Home on 4 July in Hindi, English, Tamil and Telugu.

Marvel India conducts a multi-city fan event with Robert Downey Jr in a live video conference

Marvel India surprised its fans in India with a one-of-a-kind-fan-event where they got to meet their favourite superhero Iron Man (Tony Stark) aka Robert Downey Jr in a LIVE video conference.

Gathering at respective assigned venues from four cities- New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru, fans flocked in huge numbers to experience this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet their favourite superhero, even if it was virtual, and get their questions answered.

Presently on a series of press tour for Avengers:Endgame, Downey Jr. was live from Korea and happily answered the questions that fans asked him. His answers reflected why he’s Iron Man more than anybody else because of the terrific wit and charm. Few of them were:

> Which is your favorite Iron Man Costume?

RDJ:  The one you haven’t seen yet. I particularly love Mark 1 and Mark 42.

> You and Pepper Potts were thinking of settling down before Thanos ruined it. If you were to name your kids what are some names you are considering?

RDJ: Well, if we have triplets I guess we’ll have to call them Marks I, II and III.

> Sir, could you please share some fun stories from the ‘Avengers : Endgame’ Wrap party?

RDJ: Right, well I have no memory of it so must have been pretty good. I got to tell you honestly, we made both Infinity War and Endgame, we basically shot them back to back and it was the most time that the most Avengers and Guardians and everyone was spending most time together. Endgame really represents the culmination of probably the time in our lives that we have been the closest.

He also showered his love to Indian fans after he was greeted with his signature moves in Instagram posts. He laughed and ‘bowed’ to the fans and said,”You guys are just amazing fans. I can’t wait. I cannot believe I haven’t been to India. I’m coming there so damn soon.”

We’re keeping our fingers crossed!

Till then, we get to see him on big screen on 26 April in Avengers:Endgame.

Eve Ewing is penning the upcoming Marvel series ‘Ironheart’

Marvel Comics has announced that the Chicago-based poet and academic Eve L. Ewing is going to write for the new ongoing comic Ironheart which is about the teen genius and superhero who temporarily takes over Iron Man while Tony Stark is in the coma. Ewing is an academic, a social media maven, a poet, and a playwright. The comic book is expected to be launched in the fall and the illustrations will be given by Kevin Libranda (Champions).

The story focuses on Riri Williams who is a genius black teen girl from Chicago. Just like any other superhero’s story, she too had experienced a great loss in her life when she was just a kid. In a drive-by shooting, her stepfather who raised her and best friend were both killed. Riri is shown to be incredibly intelligent as she recreates the Iron Man suit on her own without all the resources available. The impressed Stark trains her for a brief time, and she takes over as Iron Man by wearing the suit. Eventually, Riri strikes out on her own in her own suit to save her country.

“I’m really proud to be doing this and really proud and happy for Riri. She is an awesome character and I’m going to do my best to bring every ounce of Chicago black girl greatness that she deserves and that you all deserve,” Ewing wrote in a Twitter post. Ewing has also mentioned that she personally identifies with Riri as her haircut and general mode of dress matches.

In 2017, a campaign had taken place by her fans to gather signatures to let Marvel know that they all wanted Ewing to guide Riri’s path. This movement had picked up steam on Twitter and succeeded in landing her the opportunity. Now her fans can wait while she brings the character and story live.
