‘Thunderbirds are Go’ arriving Down Under in 2015!

Inspired by the 1960’s classic “Thunderbirds” series, created by legendary puppet master Gerry Anderson, Thunderbirds Are Go is the exciting, new action adventure series. A co-production between ITV Studios and New Zealand’s Pukeko Pictures in association with world-famous Weta Workshop (The Lord of the Rings, Avatar), the new series isscheduled to debut on Channel 9 in Australia in April 2015.

Merchantwise has been appointed by ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE), to manage the development of the new licensing and merchandising program for this iconic property in Australia.

Merchantwise MD Alan Schauder said in a statement: “We are very excited to be working with ITVS GE, to bringthis reimagined classic Down Under and to introduce today’s younger generation to “The Thunderbirds” and the world of international rescue.”

ITV Studios Global Entertainment SVP – head of Global Merchandising Trudi Hayward added: “Thunderbirds is phenomenally popular in Australia and a key territory for the brand. We are confident that Merchantwise’s great expertise will develop an exciting licensing programme for the highly anticipated Thunderbirds Are GoTV series, where following its spring debut, young fanswill be able to engage with the world of International Rescue through innovative and interactive products.”

Global toy partner, Vivid, has also recently appointed Headstart International to distribute its high quality collection of toys across Australia. The range will feature figurines, vehicles, playsets, diecast, construction, role play, dress ups, games and puzzles.

Headstart director Andrew Hendy said: “The team at Headstart is thrilled to be the ones to make the Thunderbirds toys take off in Australia. The brand has had incredible success in our market in the past and with the amazing new TV series, Thunderbirds is set to be one of the biggest boys’ toy brands in 2015. Thunderbirds and Headstart are go!”

Merchantwise is now seeking expressions of interest for the licensing of all key merchandising categories.
