‘Sons of Anarchy’ creator Kurt Sutter set to write ‘Lucas Stand’ for BOOM! Studios

Recently BOOM! Studios had revealed that they will be launching a crossover comic on Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy, the first collaboration between BOOM! Studios and DC Entertainment. And now, it has announced that it’s adding a major title to its comic book line up.

Lucas StandThe announcement was made at WonderCon stating that Boom! Studios will be publishing a new series from Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter. Titled Lucas Stand, the book will see Sutter transition from gritty, Shakespearean biker drama to supernatural fantasy.

“I always said the bikes and the leather and the explosions were the candy that tempted people” to watch Sons, Sutter says. “But it was the emotionality and the family component that got them to stay. Because blowing (stuff) up every week gets old.”

Here are the synopsis: Lucas Stand is a military vet who can’t reintegrate into society and has emotionally cut himself off from the people he loves. At his lowest, Lucas does something he can’t take back. Hell comes calling, offering him the opportunity to make things right. Demons escaping Hell are upsetting the balance of evil, and now Lucifer has recruited Lucas to send them back. It doesn’t matter in what era the demons escape—World War II, old-timey Hollywood, Vietnam, present day—he must learn to fit in both the past and the present. Given new purpose, Lucas starts to rebuild himself and his life, even as he struggles at the human cost that comes with it.

“There’s all these crazy demons and amazing implements of death, and (I’m) able to run with it without worrying about ‘How are we going to do this?” Sutter revealed to USA Today that he initially developed Lucas Stand for TV, but despite the success of Sons of Anarchy, FX was “more curious than excited” about the project. However, shifting focus to the comic book medium has given him the freedom to tell the story the way he wants.

Co written by Sutter and Caitlin Kittredge , with art by Jesús Hervás, Lucas Stand will be out on 1 June.
