Sekiro: No Defeat,an upcoming hand-drawn anime television series adaptation of FromSoftware’s, a well-known Japanese video game development company, acclaimed 2019 action-adventure video game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, is slicing its way to Crunchyroll, with the hand-drawn anime adaptation set to stream weekly from January 2027.
Produced by Kadokawa, Qzil.la and Arch, the anime series Sekiro: No Defeat will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll worldwide, excluding Japan, China, Korea, Russia and Belarus. The anime will run for eight episodes, packing in additional content beyond the theatrical version currently screening in Japan.
Based on FromSoftware and Activision’s hit game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the series takes viewers into a fantastical reimagining of Sengoku-era Japan, where loyalty, blood and sacrifice come with the territory.
At the centre of the story is Wolf, a loyal shinobi tasked with protecting the central character Kuro, the Divine Heir. As Japan remains fractured by endless war, the land of Ashina finds itself facing a fresh threat from the Interior Ministry.
Developed by FromSoftware, the studio behind Elden Ring, Bloodborne and Dark Souls, and published by Activision, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.
Kenichi Kutsuna directs the anime, with Takuya Satou on screenplay duties and Takahiro Kishida handling character design. Shunsuke Fukui serves as deputy director, while Kaito Moki is chief animation director and Takashi Mukoda is action animation director.
The creative team also includes art director Yuji Kaneko, colour designer Azusa Sasaki, cinematographer Keisuke Nozawa, editor Yoshinori Murakami, sound director Yasushi Nagura and composer Shuta Hasunuma.
The voice cast brings a formidable trio to the battlefield. Daisuke Namikawa voices Wolf, Miyuki Satou voices Kuro / the Divine Heir, while Kenjiro Tsuda lends his voice to Genichiro Ashina.
With its expanded eight-episode format, Sekiro: No Defeat is set to take fans deeper into Wolf and Kuro’s story when the anime begins streaming on Crunchyroll in January 2027.
