Pebble’s new Kickstarter campaign collects more than $9 million in a day

Whenever you talk about Kickstarter, it’s usual that the conversation will veer to Pebble. There may be more successful crowdfunding campaigns, but the smartwatch’s stupendous success is tied to that of its partner. Earlier today, however, Pebble once again took to the site to launch its third product, the Pebble Time.

In a little more than 24 hours, the campaign for its latest smartwatch — which will boast a color screen and built-in microphone — topped $9 million.

The company announced its latest device, called Pebble Time, on Tuesday. The latest version of its smartwatch features a color e-paper screen, built-in microphone for sending quick voice responses and a redesigned interface that makes navigating much easier.

The Pebble Time will be available at retailer stores in May, but the company offered interested consumers a pre-order for Time by backing it on Kickstarter. According to Time’s campaign page, the smartwatch boasts more than 46,000 backers.

“This is a throwback to our humble beginnings,” said Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky of the Kickstarter push. “We want to get this in front of the people who matter to us, like the people who have used the product, who backed us on Kickstarter, who have supported the community. We think this is the most efficient and effective way to get our new product on to their wrists as soon as possible.”

Pebble Time is available on Kickstarter for $159, and will be available at retail for $199. The smartwatch will work on both iOS and Android smartphones.
