Netflix renews Jessica Jones for Season 2; but won’t stream before 2017

Popular streaming platform Netflix has renewed Marvel’s detective super hero Jessica Jones for second season of 13 episodes with Krysten Ritter starring in the lead role.

After the series debut in November, it received strong reviews and was appreciated from all quarters for its noir comic to screen adaption and also powerful performances from the star cast. Jessica Jones is a part of the four series deal Marvel TV has with Netflix which includes characters from comic universe like Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist of which the Luke Cage standalone TV series is to debut this year and Iron Fist next year. All four TV series will culminate into miniseries The Defenders which is set for 2017.

The renewal for second season does not come with a set date as to when will the season will be streaming on Netflix. According to TVLine, Netflix creative boss Ted Sarandos said that mostly the second season of Jessica Jones will have to wait. “Right now, these are produced at the scale of a major film, so there are long production times and long post times. In some case, when we have character crossover, it makes it more difficult to manage production. It’s not the goal to put out more than one or two out a year.”

With Daredevil season two all set to stream from March and a Luke Cage debut happening this year, Jessica Jones season two is most likely to be pushed off until next year.

For the fans who want to revisit the first season of Jessica Jones, it is available on Netflix here in India.
