A marked warrior, a dying sun and a journey into the land of the dead- La Marca del Jaguar: El Despertar del Fuego is bringing some serious mythological heat to Los Angeles.
The Mexican animated feature, directed by Víctor Mayorga and featuring Ted Lasso star Cristo Fernández, will screen in the Hola Niños section of the 18th Hola Mexico Film Festival on 26 and 27 September at Regal LA Live in downtown Los Angeles.
The Spanish-language film follows Xilacatzin, a gifted young warrior born with the Mark of the Jaguar, a symbol others regard as an omen of darkness. Shunned and mistrusted throughout his life, he is thrust into a far bigger battle when the Fifth Sun begins to die.
His mission? Descend into Mictlán, the realm of the dead, and recover the New Fire before darkness swallows the human world.
Guided by his mentor Yaotecatzin, Xilacatzin sets off with an unlikely band of companions. Along the way, mythical creatures, near-impossible trials and the fearsome goddess Itzpapálotl stand between him and his goal. Fernández leads the Spanish-language voice cast alongside Abraham Vega and Beto Castillo.
The feature is produced by Origem Content of Brazil, Ocelotl Co of Mexico and Hecat of France. Chadi Abo, Mayorga, Ricardo Tejedo, Jacobo Salomon, Paul Vacca and Ducca Rios are among the producers, with Hugo Yeshiel serving as executive producer.
La Marca del Jaguar: El Despertar del Fuego will screen at noon on 26 September and at 2:45 p.m. on Sunday 27 September.
Founded by Samuel Douek in 2008, the Hola Mexico Film Festival is billed as the largest Mexican Film festival outside Mexico.
