The mystery may be far from over, but the music has found its next chapter. Virtual artist and illustrator Kagura Nana has released the music video for Hakuchuumu (Daydreams), the ending theme for The Detective Is Already Dead season two.

Released digitally on 15 October, the song marks Nana’s return to the anime franchise after performing Koudou, the ending theme for its first season, which aired in 2021. The latest track is written, composed and arranged by vocaloid producer 40mP, who also worked on the earlier song.

Nana described her comments on Hakuchuumu through the anime’s official X (formerly Twitter) account as an answer song to Koudou, expressing the feelings of Nagisa, one of the anime’s central characters. “I am so glad to be singing the ending theme again, following season one!” she said, adding that she hopes audiences enjoy the song alongside the series.

Based on the light novel series written by Nigozyu and illustrated by Umibouzu, The Detective Is Already Dead follows Kimihiko Kimizuka, whose life takes an unexpected turn after the death of his partner, the silver-haired detective Siesta. Season two premiered in Japan on 7 October 2026, five years after the first season.

Manabu Kurihara directed the second season at animation studio Engi, with Deko Akao handling series composition and Yosuke Ito designing the characters. The original light novel series has 14 volumes published in Japan, while Yen Press releases its English-language editions and the manga adaptation illustrated by Mugiko.

Crunchyroll is streaming both seasons across several international territories, including North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, and Southeast Asia.

With 40mP back at the controls and Nana revisiting the franchise through a musical response to its first season, Hakuchuumu gives fans another reason to follow the mystery right through to the closing credits.
