
After a long hiatus, DC is set to expand its franchise with a fresh slate of films. Among the newly announced projects is Superman: Man of Tomorrow, revealed by James Gunn, director of the latest Superman film.
The DC director took to his social media handle to announce the release of the movie revealing the title and release date for the project with a comic book image. The upcoming movie is carefully placed in the forthcoming DC release timeline keeping in mind the titular heroes character arc in the DCU. The much anticipated sequel will arrive in theatres on 9 July 2027, with David Corenswet returning as the iconic superhero.
In a recent social media post by the director, Superman is pictured alongside Lex Luthor, who appears in a formidable war suit. The image teases an impending face-off between the Man of Steel and his iconic adversary. Sharing the post Gunn wrote, “Man of Tomorrow.In theatres 9 July 2027”, indicating that the movie’s release in 2027.
According to the comic book storyline, the warsuit is created by Luthor to match Superman’s strength and abilities. However, his intricate plan to clone Superman’s abilities did not pan out as he wanted to, thus he decided to go for a direct approach instead.
Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman is the first film to launch the new DC Universe (DCU). Based on the legendary DC Comics character, the film explores the early journey of Clark Kent as he steps into his role as Superman.
The action-adventure fantasy features a star-studded cast including David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, and Edi Gathegi. Released earlier this summer, Superman achieved strong box office success, grossing more than US$ 611 million worldwide.
