Beijing, the next destination for ReedPOP’s Comic Con

Having tapped in countries like America, Australia, Europe, India and in recent past China at Shanghai city, ReedPOP is now all set to explore the China market more by expanding its vision in China’s capital, Beijing.

After successfully holding the first ReedPOP comic convention in Shanghai this May, the pop culture event producer began plans for a similar outing in China’s capital next June and a second Shanghai Comic Convention (SHCC) on 5 and 6 November, 2016.

In 2006, ReedPOP, a division of Reed Exhibitions, hosted its first convention in New York (known as New York Comic Con or NYCC) and over the years they have managed to make this event bigger and better.

According to the ReedPOP Beijing team, the first SHCC brought in 14,000 comic fans from Shanghai and other cities, a large percentage of which came from Beijing. Cosplay which is comic con’s one of the biggest attraction also managed to garner a lot of attention.

The NYCC founder and ReedPOP senior global vice president Lance Fensterman expressed his admiration for the Chinese crowd, though he admitted that he has not yet attended any of the country’s comic conventions. “I’ve been to several editions of that and admire what they built. Seeing that event inspired us, because you can see the passion that fans have. Video game fans and pop culture fans are kind of the same,” Fensterman said.

The Beijing edition is going to be held on 9 and 10 June, 2016 at New China International Exhibition Center.
