Netflix’s Jessica Jones trailer promises more of Marvel’s dark and gritty tone

The wait is finally over. After a string of dark and ghastly teasers of Netflix’s latest superheroine in the Marvel universe, Jessica Jones, the first full-fledged trailer is finally out and it confirms exactly what we all were hoping for; a darker edge outlining the under-belly of Hell’s Kitchen in the well-choreographed and weaved Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Early this year Marvel and Netflix gave fans a number of reasons to rejoice, and these have to do with the announcement of the four web-series on Netflix namely Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. The series are in development (except Daredevil) and will span over 2 to 3 years. Very much like Marvel’s Avengers bringing all the superheroes together on-screen, Marvel envisioned uniting these street-level superheroes in one-show, Defenders.

With the vision set, it was only the execution that needed deliverance and rightfully, Marvel and Netflix’s collaboration was turned into a massive success with the pioneering web TV series, Daredevil. Starring Charlie Cox as the blind scarlet demon, Daredevil, the show with its dark and gritty tone depicting the crime-infested town of Hell’s Kitchen notched up an average viewership of 4.38 million across its 13 crisp episode format with stunning performances from Vincent D’Onofrio as King Pin.

Daredevil has certainly left our expectations high from these new breed of dark superhero series spawning some of the lesser known Marvel characters. Latest addition to the group, Jessica Jones is also the first female lead super-heroine getting all the attention in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Here’s a look at the trailer of Netflix’s Jessica Jones created by Melissa Rosenberg which is all set to go online on November 20, 2015.

Starring Krysten Ritter as the superheroine-turned- private investigator Jessica Jones, the trailer reiterates the haunting tone of Daredevil. However while Daredevil was an out-an out origin series, fans attuned with the comic-lore could tell that the trailer teases a Jessica much ahead in her life, wherein she has retired from being the super-heroine and is left with some very intriguing battle-scars in her mind. No doubt this is none other than the mysterious Zebediah Killgrave, the Purple Man played by David Tennant in the upcoming show. As per Marvel comics, Purple Man has been one of the most formidable foes of Daredevil and has had a violent history with Jessica Jones too keeping her in his mental-grasp using his mind-control powers.

The trailer also teases Mike Colter’s Like Cage confronting our heroine about her powers. Mike’s Luke is about to get his share of screen-time in his own upcoming series, Luke Cage however with Cage having a very connected history with Jones, the makers seem to be waling the comic-book line. Divulging no more spoilers here, Jessica Jones with its haunting music, crisp and stealthy action is all set to bring alive an amazing superhero show on TV. Stay tuned for the MCU is just about to get darker and sinister!
