‘Mohenjo Daro’ trailer fails to ignite relevance to history through visuals

Building an ancient era can turn out to be a huge task if not done accurately. Historic structures have their own relevance and aura which remunerates in the viewers’ minds and takes them back on a walk in history. Unfortunately, none of this is felt from the trailer of upcoming Bollywood feature film Mohenjo Daro.

The very first visual of the trailer released by UTV Motion Pictures displaying the city of Mohenjo-daro looks artificial. The bird’s eye view of the archeological site of the Indus Valley civilisation does not resonate a tale of India’s well known and authentic event which we all as kids have read in our history books.

The film follows the story of a farmer named Sarman played by Hrithik Roshan and his deep unknown connection to the historic city. The love angle added to the plot takes the lead on people’s mind with newcomer Pooja Hegde playing the role of Chaani who seems to be quite a dancer of that era.

The plot takes a turn with the antagonist Maham played by Kabir Bedi showing off his domination over the city. However, the connection that Hrithik has with the city and the lady is something to look forward to.

The visuals like the crocodile taking a leap in the air, the night overview of Mohenjo-daro and the water gushing and flooding looks unrealistic. Drishyam VFX has delivered the visual effects for this film with Prime Focus managing the DI. However, it is too early to judge as the film may turn out to be a relevant tale of history narrated in an entertaining dramatic way.

Music composed by A.R. Rahman and the alphabetical visuals showing the race back in time of different eras doesn’t create an engaging effect on the viewers. Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Sunita A. Gowariker, Mohenjo Daro is set to release on 12 August, 2016.
