Government keen on National AVCG Centre: MoS Rathore

The government has off late shown keen interest in promoting the animation, VFX, comics and gaming (AVCG) industry of the country. The latest in its efforts to boost the sector is coming from the Information & Broadcasting Ministry minister of state Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.

The proposed National Centre of Excellence for gaming, animation and visual arts is getting the right push from the minister. A report in Times of India quotes him as saying, “We are very keen on this project. It has the potential to generate jobs while rejuvenating traditional crafts that have excited us for ages.”

The I&B ministry wants to encourage more indigenous characters and stories through the upcoming centre that is likely to come up soon. It is hoping to get Indian artisans and craftsmen in the process. The minister had recently met with the industry body FICCI to get a healthy turnout for the event which will result in good faculty and a high job potential.

The current lot of domestic characters include: Chhota Bheem, Arjun, Mighty Raju, Roll No. 21, Motu Patlu and Kisna.

State governments have also been keen to encourage this growing industry with Maharashtra being the latest to have given it a thought.
