Censor concerns hamper the release of the most awaited movie ‘Deadpool’ in China

“X gon give it to ya

F**k wait for you to get it on your own

X gon deliver to ya

Knock knock, open up the door, it’s real

Wit the non-stop, pop pop and stainless steel

Go hard gettin busy wit it

But I got such a good heart

I’ll make a m*****f**ker wonder if he did it

Damn right and I’ll do it again”

No, we are not giving out the lyrics of the song by DMX X gon give it to ya but if the lyrics have offended or given a cultural shock, then imagine what lies in the upcoming comic adapted movie that’s sporting this music. Yes, we are talking about one of the most awaited, movie by 20th Century Fox, Deadpool that’s set to release on 12 February 2016.

deadpool-poster1Since the time the trailer of the movie was released, fanboys and girls have been eagerly waiting for this R rated Marvel antihero but for the fans out in China there’s a sad news. China’s censor boards have a raised an objection over the depiction of violence, nudity and graphic language.

And with this news, Fox’s movie won’t release in the world’s second-largest market. Citing local media reports, THR states Deadpool has been denied distribution in China, with its more than 20,000 movie screens.

Generally, the censor board ask the Hollywood studios to re-edit the R rated movies and remove the objectionable parts but with Deadpool there are low chances of this taking place as the essence of the story and the character will be lost if those scenes will be cut.

China market has proved to be a valuable market for Marvel studios in the recent times as Avengers: Age of Ultron went on to gross $240 million and Ant Man went on to earn more than $100 million.

Fox is yet to comment whether they will tone down the language and nudity in the movie according to the decision made by China’s media regulator, namely the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film, and Television, and after working with Hollywood representative in an effort to establish a PG-13 cut of the film for international audiences, the film has been banned entirely in China.
The film has been banned in China due to China’s sensitivity towards acceptance of such kind of violent, gory and nude content at the same time the question now arises what kind of release will India witness, will it be something like what we saw for movies like Spectre, 50 Shades of Grey or the censor board will allow Deadpool to be showcased the way it’s supposed to be.
