Ubisoft reveals new ‘Splinter Cell’ and ‘Assassin’s Creed’ games are coming for Oculus VR at Facebook Connect

Ubisoft has revealed that they’re formally engaged working on new Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed games for VR. Ubisoft’s Red Storm Entertainment VP of product development Elizabeth Loverso , joined today’s Facebook Connect event to reveal that the publisher is bringing two major franchises to VR: Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed. It will be exclusive for Oculus platforms.

Loverso says, “We are always exploring new ways we can leverage technology to help us create memorable gaming experiences.Oculus’s state-of-the-art hardware will enable us to bring the worlds of Assassin’s Creed and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell to life for fans in a new way. These games will take full advantage of Oculus’s technology to deliver immersive, visceral experiences that players won’t be able to find anywhere else.”

Exact titles haven’t been disclosed at this point, however Ubisoft shared that they will be “new chapters” in each game series. Development of both games is led by Red Storm Entertainment, with support from Ubi’s Dusseldorf, Mumbai, and Reflections studios. 

The key details are still extremely thin at the instant, however the play big calls claimed that it’ll be over simply ports of existing games. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has previously suggested that developers are concerned about bringing the series back given the weight of expectation, but has also stated that it would return, albeit with new experiences, and “on different devices.”
