Walt Disney drops trailer and poster of ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’

Disney released a brand new trailer and poster for its upcoming animated feature, Raya and the Last Dragon. Set to hit big screens in March 2021, the new trailer gives audiences a more in-depth look at Raya (voiced by Kelly-Marie Tran) as she takes her warrior crew and faces off con artists on her quest to find the mythical last dragon.

The official description of the film follows: A lone warrior, Raya, must track down the legendary last dragon to stop an evil force that has returned after 500 years to once again threaten her homeworld, Kumandra.

Raya and the Last Dragon is Disney’s first Southeast Asian-centered animated movie also includes Awkwafina, Sandra Oh and Gemma Chan as the voice cast. The film is directed by Don Hall (Big Hero 6) and Carlos López Estrada (Blindspotting) along with Paul Briggs and John Ripa co-directing it. Produced by Osnat Shurer and Peter Del Vecho, the animated feature is written by Qui Nguyen and Adele Lim (Crazy Rich Asians).

Post the trailer launch, Kelly Marie Tran and Awkwafina have reacted to the brand-new trailer. “I’m gonna be real with you. I’m not, like, the best dragon,” Sisu, voiced by Awkwafina, admits to Raya. “Have you ever done like a group project but there’s like that one kid who didn’t pitch in as much but still ends up with the same grade?” she said.

The trailer also reveals the masked fighter in the movie as Raya’s wise father Benja, played by Daniel Dae Kim. Rest of the noted cast includes Gemma Chan as Raya’s nemesis, Namaari; Sandra Oh as Namaari’s powerful mother, Virana; Lucille Soong as Dang Hu, the leader of Talon; Patti Harrison as the chief of the land of Tail; and Ross Butler as chief of the Spine land.

Raya and the Last Dragon releases across theatres in India on 5 March, 2021.
