Google India celebrates Children’s Day by inviting young minds to design a Doodle

Announces the fourth annual edition of Doodle4Google competition across the country

From commemorating birthdays of notable people to lauding achievements in science to applauding big cultural events like the Olympics, Google Doodles have celebrated special days across the globe. We are happy to announce the Doodle 4 Google competition for 2012 with the theme of ‘Unity in Diversity’. With this we are inviting all children between the ages of 5 to 16 years to share their creativity by doodling on the Google logo.

Last year, we received over a 100,000 entries and this year with some interesting enhancements, we expect the excitement levels to go higher, as the contest will reach over 40 cities. Like every year, the winning Doodle will be featured on the Google (India) HomePage on Children’s Day (November 14th). The final winner of the competition will be announced at a glittering event in New Delhi on November 6.

Announcing this year’s competition, Nikhil Rungta, Country Marketing Head, Google India said, “Doodle 4 Google is a great opportunity for students to explore the intersection of art and technology, while sharing their talents and creativity on a national scale. Through this program we hope participants will have fun, think creatively and learn something new all at the same time. Last year’s winning Doodle by Varsha Gupta, from Delhi NCR, showcased in vivid detail that India is a land of different cultures, and music is an integral part of it. This year we expect the children of India to showcase to the world how India is united in diversity.”

Like every year, the participants will be grouped into three different categories: Group 1 comprising students from class 1 to 3; Group 2 with students from class 4 to 6; and Group 3 with students from class 7 to 10. The new thing that we are doing this year is to divide India into 4 regions – North, South, East and West. We will then have three shortlists from every region across each of the three groups The first round of entries will go through preliminary judging, post which 12 entries will be announced based on a selection by a panel consisting of independent judges. All chosen entries will be exhibited for public voting, and based on the number of votes, one winner from each group will be selected. The Jury along with the original Google Doodler will then choose the final winning Doodle from all the finalists.

Participating in the competition is simple:
