Technicolor and Canada’s Mercury Filmworks have jointly announced their partnership with Gaumont Animation to co-develop and co-produce the animated comedy television series, Atomic Puppet, which will air on Disney XD in France, the U.S. and on various other Disney XD channels around the world. In Canada, the series will air on TELETOON Canada.
“It has been tremendous fun developing this show with Mercury; and it’s exciting to now have Gaumont Animation joining the creative team,” commented Steven Wendland, Vice President, Technicolor. “The humorous stories that underscore adventure and fun will be relatable to kids throughout the globe and we’re excited to be working with Disney XD and TELETOON.”
In Atomic Puppet, Model City’s fearless superhero Captain Atomic is transformed into a lively, but powerless puppet by his brilliant yet ill-intentioned sidekick Nuclear Boy (“Nukey”). The only way Captain Atomic can save Model City from Nukey and a host of other villains targeting the city is by teaming up with his biggest fan, 12-year-old Joey Felt, who literally holds the power in his hand to reactivate Captain Atomic’s superpowers every time he puts Atomic Puppet on his hand. Without the ability to use his powers at his own discretion and the support from adoring fans he once relied so heavily on, Atomic Puppet begrudgingly must learn to work with Joey if he ever wants to be restored to his former glory, and defeat Nukey once and for all.
“The addition of Gaumont Animation as a co-producer and the caliber of broadcasters supporting the series are very satisfying validations of the time and creative energy Mercury and Technicolor have invested inAtomic Puppet,” said Clint Eland, President & Executive Producer of Mercury Filmworks.
“We are proud and excited to join Technicolor and Mercury on the production of AtomicPuppet,” added Pierre Belaďsch, Managing Director of Gaumont Animation. “We’re particularly delighted that all our efforts and hard work during these last years have given Gaumont Animation the opportunity to participate in this future international hit series!”
Atomic Puppet was created by animated television writer Mark Drop (Johnny Test, Jake and the Never Land Pirates) and writer/creator Jerry Leibowitz (The Mouse and the Monster). In Canada, the series is being developed by John Derevlany (Lego’s Legends of Chima) and Brad Birch (Johnny Test), and overseen by Mercury Filmworks’ Director of Development Travis Williams (Total Drama Island). In France, Technicolor will work with Thierry Rivard to lead the co-production on behalf of Technicolor; and development in France is led by Paris-based Heath Kenny, Creative Director for Gaumont Animation.
