Anifest India 06:Additional bonanza announced

It’s bonanza time at Anifest India 06!

Call it the icing on the cake or another pastry in itself, but the buffet for the festival is getting more sumptuous by the day.

Organizers of Anifest India 06 have announced a bonanza of three more workshop presentations in addition to the existing four sessions, taking the total tally now to seven presentations.

Speaking to Animation ‘xpress, Anifest India 06 organizers Ranjit ‘Tony’ Singh and Vaibhav Kumaresh shared that, “We have already announced four workshops for day one (29 April) of Anifest India 06, now in addition to these there will be three more workshops on the morning of day two (30 April) and all this without any additional cost”

Thanks to the bonanza, Day Two which was scheduled to begin early evening will now begin in the morning at 9.00 am at KC College. Taking guard will be UTV Toons Technical Director RK Chand who will do a workshop on production pipelines. The other two workshops for the day include one from a senior artist from Prana Studios and another one from a senior artist from a major international studio. Watch the TASI website for details and updates

Drawing light to the thought process behind the workshops and the way they were scheduled, Tony and Vaibhav shared, “The workshop presentations are planned like a cookery show which explains things in a step by step manner. The basic idea is to share the processes of 2D, 3D, Stop Motion animation with the audience. We want to share this in a very open manner and eventually the point being bought home to the audience will be that every medium has its own charm and characteristics and that there are no firsts”

The Anifest India 2006 mascot is going to be interpreted by each of the workshop conductors into their respective mediums. Chetan from Animagic will draw the character and animate him so we will see every process of how he does that, and Vivek will sculpt the same character virtually using his 3D tools on the computer and again animate him, Vaibhav will create a physical model out of him and animate him frame by frame.

Mahesh from DreamWorks Animation is scheduled to do a workshop presentation on his experiences, using behind the scenes materials from their films. Also speaking after him will be Rex Grignon – Head of Character Animation at DreamWorks Animation.
Vaibhav adds, “The audience will see how an armature is created, how a model is built right from translating the hand drawn character into an armature which can be animated frame by frame. I shall be reserving maximum time in the session to shoot the action in two different processes, replacement animation as well as displacement animation. Both are different methods which I want to place before the audience”

Vivek Ram, Vinayak, Mehul, Nirmal, Mridul from R&H INDIA will be conducting the 3D workshop jointly. Vivek Ram shared, “The idea is that we will be presenting one big segment where we are comparing similarities and dissimilarities in each medium with the idea of demonstrating that animation is not medium specific. We will also focus on the strengths of 3D where thanks to the way that the medium works we will create 3 characters from variations of one and build gags around them. Other advantages of 3D that we are going to focus will be particle based simulations and the camera movement which is a major advantage of the medium”

TASI joint secretary Rajesh Turakhia adds,”We are happy to have received such a positive response for this year’s celebrations. We are daily receiving entries to the TASI Viewer’s Choice Awards and in addition to the trophies; there are lots of valuable surprises in store for the winners. At these rock bottom prices, this surely is a real value takeaway for people. Over two days you get to see the craft in it’s various avatars, meet network with experts from India and overseas and party too”

“Registrations are in full swing with most people booking their seats for both the days. We have delivered on the promise we made last year by extending the scope of the event from a mere party get-together to a fun learning experience” said Tony.

“We would like to commend the support extended by the sponsors and the presenters in enabling us to organize the event at this scale. It is the only event of its kind in India and now it’s up to the junta to seize this opportunity” he concluded.
