DHX Media announces DHX Studios; new animation facility in Vancouver

DHX Media, the kids and family entertainment company, is rebranding its content-creation arm as DHX Studios, which will develop and produce quality animated and live-action kids. DHX is also building a brand-new 60,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art animation facility in Vancouver to consolidate its West Coast production operations, comprising about 700 personnel.

The new studio will be led by Asaph Fipke who was previously the CEO of Nerd Corps Entertainment, a Vancouver based animation studio. DHX Studios combines development, production and interactive teams under a management team led by Asaph Fipke as Chief Content Officer and Ken Faier as SVP and General Manager. Additionally, Kirsten Newlands is SVP – Animation Production, Stephanie Betts is VP – Development & Current Series, Logan McPherson is VP, Creative – Animation Production; Phillip Stamp is VP – Current Production, Halifax; Tracey Jardine is VP – Live Action; and LA-based Josh Fisher recently joined DHX as VP – Creative Affairs, reporting to Betts.

DHX Studios will report to DHX Media’s President and COO, Steven DeNure. “The reorganisation of this business unit cements DHX Media’s dedication to producing outstanding original content. We are excited to launch DHX Studios under this strong management group, and to be bringing our 2D and 3D Vancouver animation teams together into one facility,” says DeNure.

The studio further plans to hire about 100 more workers in the coming months to work on TV shows including Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Inspector Gadget, Slugterra and Supernoobs.
