Mindy Kaling’s adult animated series ‘Velma’ gets first official poster

The first official poster of Mindy Kaling led animated series Velma is released by HBO Max. The upcoming series will put an adult twist to the Scooby-Doo spinoff series.

The poster doesn’t reveal much, but it does convey the violent tone of Velma by giving a close-up view of the titular character’s distinctive glasses, which are bloodied and sitting on the ground. The tagline reads, ‘It’s the mystery before the Inc.’ Prior to the official Velma panel at New York Comic Con 2022, the poster was released.

The adult-oriented Scooby-Doo spinoff series Velma received a straight-to-series order from HBO Max in February 2021. Kaling will voice Velma Dinkley, the office’s resident bookworm. Prior to her global adventures with Fred, Daphne, Shaggy, and Scooby, HBO Max’s Velma tells the origin tale of its titular character, who is reimagined as being of South Asian ethnicity.

According to the official synopsis, Velma is an adult animated comedy series recounting the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. group. Executive producer Mindy Kaling will voice the titular character in an innovative and entertaining twist that reveals the complicated and colourful backstory of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers. Sam Register, Howard Klein, and Charlie Grandy also serve as executive producers. Warner Bros. Animation is the production company behind Velma.

Velma will stream on HBO Max. It does not have a release date yet.
