Pyramid Saimira ties up with Sony to develop games for PS 2 18 April 2008 10:35 AM

Entertainment major Pyramid Saimira which acquired 100 percent stake in UK based game developer Aurona Technologies in January this year, has now joined hands with Sony Computers Entertainment Europe (SCEE) to develop console games for Sony PS2.
Pyramid Saimira with its gaming arm Aurona, will develop game on Lord Hanuman, titled as ‘Hanuman’. Currently in the development stage, the game will portray some part of epic Ramayana and is slated for late 2008 release. The action adventure game is a role playing game and is being worked at Aurona’s Hyderabad studio with close to 60 artists working on it.
Aurona’s Hyderabad game studio is one of the India’s most prolific developer of PC, PS2 and Nintendo games for International clients. Aurona has been in the gaming space for the past 4 years with a strong focus on console games for International market. Aurona’s tie-up with Sony will allow it to enter in the Indian market along with an Indian theme.

In an exclusive interaction with AnimationXpress.com, Aurona Technologies Business Development Director Hetal Bhuva shared, “Our objective behind having collaboration with Sony is to explore the Indian gaming market and Indian content. The Hanuman game will be targeted at kids of age group of 6 – 16 worldwide, who are familiar with the Indian culture and mythology and can easily relate to it.”
Developed by Aurona, the game will be published by Sony Computers for Indian and Overseas market. As the game releases in the market, Aurona will also explore the possibilities of making games on other platforms including mobile, PC and online for Indian market.
On being asked about the selection of Sony Playstation 2 as a medium to enter the Indian gaming market, Bhuva replied, “Sony has been there in the Indian gaming market for quite some time now and PS 2 is popular amongst the gamers in India and worldwide as well. So Sony was an obvious choice for us because it has a good customer base and its existence in India for a long while has made it much trendy amongst the gamers.”
Atindriya Bose, India Country Manager of Sony Computer Entertainment shared, “This tie-up is really a great start because this is the first time that an Indian theme is getting transformed into a console game which is specially targeted towards the Indian audiences.”
“We have our own distribution channel in every country and in India, we will be distributing the game through our distributor Milestone. Price of game will be decided when we will be close to the launch,” he further informed.
With its presence in London and Hyderabad, having close to 150 headcount, Aurona is planning to set up its full fledged operation in the US and China. “Now when we are a part of Pyramid Saimira whose presence is also in China, we are planning to set up our operation in China as well. We already have a small presence in the US, which we are planning to expand soon.” concluded Bhuva.
