“We are extremely bullish about the relationship we have with Crest. It is a very symbiotic partnership. Seeing the result that Crest managed to produce for the first film has made us very confident. We are very careful while green lighting any project, especially during the times of recession. But we have been blown by the level of quality and management skills that Crest has demonstrated on the project. This is the first time that we are seeing the kind of quality coming from an Indian studio that is at par with work being done in the west. That is the reason why we have announced the second feature even while we are still working on the first one. Also we already have another project that we are looking at together, another development as a part of our three movie deal with Crest."
In what is yet another 1st example of continued collaboration between a top HollyWood Distribution powerhouse and Studio with an Animation Powerhouse, Lionsgate and Crest Animation Studios have begun work on their 2nd feature ‘Norm of the North’ even as they announced that their first collaboration the stereoscopic 3D animated ‘Alpha & Omega‘ will release to audiences worldwide in October 2010 with close to 2000 screens showing in the US alone. The marketing campaign for ‘Alpha and Omega’ begins in spring 2010.
Crest and Lionsgate have invested jointly and equally in the project. Both the companies also share the merchandising and licensing revenues. Lionsgate will release the film in US and UK directly and through partners across the world except India. In India the distribution and marketing mandate is with Crest and the company would be collaborating with a distribution partner for the India release. Trailers of the film are to be out by spring 2010.
Said Ken Katsumoto, Executive Vice President, Lionsgate Family Entertainment, USA, at the signing ceremony in Bombay, "Our partnership with Crest has gotten off to a terrific start with ‘Alpha and Omega,‘ and ‘Norm of the North‘ is an ideal follow-up. In its range of characters, locations and narrative, ‘Norm of the North‘ offers a bounty of riches for family audiences."
In terms of merchandising, the companies have already tied up with renowned publisher Scholastic for releasing books around ‘Alpha and Omega’. Scholastic has major presence in the schools in US along with retail outlets. Lionsgate and Crest are also developing games around the project for multiple platforms. As a marketing collaboration the companies have tied up with Applebee’s, one of the major restaurant lines in US.

Crest Animation Studios has an incredible management team from their US office and their Indian headquarters. Crest has proven itself adept at not only the highest quality in animation production, but also equally impressive, has been a very well run, financially sound, entrepreneurial company that bears the distinction of being world class.

“We are looking at various licensing and merchandising opportunities for the film. We are also developing games around ‘Alpha & Omega‘ for multiple platforms - Mobile, Web and Console. We have tied up a US based game comapny for the same and the development has already commenced. They are developing different games for different platforms based on the content we have. These will be out around the release of the film. We have also tied up with restaurant promotional partner AppleBee’s and they are going to play a big role in generating continued awareness about the film by exposing their customers to the film. Applebee’s has 1800 outlets across US and this is a major partnership with historic significance.
In each case, the promotional partner that we have identified, we are looking for ways to make sure that their customers feel that they getting something exciting by going to that restaurant or that promotional partner from the film and also they are getting additional exposure to the film. These activities will begin in September.
We work with Lionsgate and they work with a brand management company that is involved in bringing different licensing partners to the program. Then we with Lionsgate and the Brand Management Company help sell the product to retail. Currently the majority of our focus is on the US and we are already talking to the major retailers in the US for the opportunities that are available in this deal. Gaming, Publishing and Plush Toys, we are looking at all of them."
Audiences worldwide will watch Alpha and Omega and Norm Of The North with special glasses. Alpha and Omega is voiced by Justin Long, Hayden Panettiere, Christina Ricci, Danny Glover, Dennis Hopper and Larry Miller.
‘Norm of the North‘ is written by Steven and Daniel Altiere. Delivery is anticipated for the first quarter of 2012. Katsumoto will oversee the production for Lionsgate; Crest Animation President of Production Richard Rich will oversee for Crest.

In the film, Norm is a Polar Bear who finds shelter in an abandoned research station when his Arctic home begins cracking and collapsing beneath him. He is accompanied by three Arctic Lemmings, sidekicks who instinctively copy Norm‘s every move. Norm enjoys this immensely as he has a love of entertaining, and an aversion to the mundane work in his community. All in all, life is good for our heroes; plenty of food, warmth, and aerobic dancing DVDs, which also help Norm perfect his ‘moves’.
But as the polar ice caps continue mysteriously breaking apart, their temporary home is abruptly dislodged, setting Norm and the lemmings on a journey that ends in NYC. Here Norm is discovered by the head of a multinational company and becomes their mascot. Suddenly Norm is living his performing dream as a dancing star.
Unfortunately, he also soon learns the polar ice caps are continuing to break apart, and the people that made his dream come true are responsible. Norm knows he must stop them before they destroy his home, a realization that forces him to choose between life in the spotlight and his entire Polar Bear community.

Audiences around the world are willing to pay higher ticket prices, even during a recession, to experience great films in 3-d and the rapid growth of theaters offering 3-d is perfectly timed and positioned for ‘Alpha and Omega‘.
