Mumbai based character creation and network marketing company Phonethics has started creating its own IP ‘Mungle‘, which is being developed as a feature (100 mins) and TV series (10 X 7 mins). The feature involves cartoonish rendition of 3D characters & environment with 2D chipping in as backgrounds and textures.
Explaining about the story of the feature, Phonethics CEO Saurabh Gupta told AnimationXpress.com, "It an interesting fun tale set in a jungle, with animals as lead characters. The protagonist ‘Billoo the donkey‘ who‘s a cable guy in the city runs away to the jungle to be free. He also carries a mobile along with him which later takes the story further as Billoo tries to set up a mobile network in the jungle by his scheming friend ‘Dollar the chimp‘ making it a Mobile Jungle,"

The concept and core creative of Mungle has been developed completely in-house with a team of more than 20 professionals including 3d & 2d artists, compositors-editors, sfx designer and VO artists, amongst others.
On being asked about the current status and future planning of the project, Kashyap added, "15 minutes of a pilot/ feeler should be ready in a month‘s time; we plan to cut a teaser and a theatrical trailer out of it for publicity and promotion. We‘re primarily targeting Indian market (hindi and regional) but as the product has an universal appeal we‘re looking at international markets as well,‘
The research on the project started a couple of years ago where as the production of the feature started in 2007. Targeted at the adults and kids as well, the film will be released in English and Hindi initially and will be dubbed in the regional languages later.
Sharing about the challenges faced, Kashyap said, "The key challenges faced by us, remain the same as by most of the animation developers in this country, right from sourcing the correct workforce to streamlining the process of workflow leading to best possible results. Animation is intrinsically capital intensive and requires creative talent across the ladder. Typically the largest challenge is in front of us – that of managing a large team over a long period of time and yet producing a consistently treated creative output,"
On a parting note, Gupta said, "‘We are looking for funding and we believe this film has the potential to be path breaking and can lead to birth of a new genre of story telling in the animation space. The story is contemporary and will have a wide connect with audiences which we believe has the capacity to make it have wide scale appeal. Also that it should pave the way for the original animated content produced out of India to reach a world stage."
