Work your neurons with the addictive puzzler ‘Huerons’

Life is like a puzzle, but what if there is a dash of colour added to it… Well Infinite Eurekas recently launched its first game called ‘Huerons’ attempting to give a fresh and new approach to create an addictive puzzle game based in the same flat and minimalistic design philosophy like iOS8.

It has elegantly, hand-crafted 100 puzzles around 9 unique Huerons, which behave differently bringing an element of puzzle, strategy, surprise and joy to the game. The puzzles are easy to learn, but difficult to master. It will keep you busy during your trips, breaks, meetings, and any time when you are looking for a quiet moment.

“Huerons are tiny colored circles. They merge together into one, when you tap on an empty cell next to them. The puzzle is solved when only one Hueron is left on the board,” expounds Infinite Eurekas founder Mudit Jaju.

The game was published by BulkyPix – founded in 2008 and with offices near Paris and San Francisco, BulkyPix is a leading developer and publisher of videogames and apps – on 18 September and has since gone on to be downloaded by nearly 5,000 users on both Android as well as iOS platforms put together.

The game has 9 types of Huerons that one will need to deal with to solve all the puzzles; purple and green Huerons will merge with Huerons of the same colour only, the blender helps to mix two Huerons of a colour into a Hueron of the other colour, the wildcard can merge with a Hueron of any colour, there are blackholes that will consume any Hueron that falls over them, there are also terminals, which are the final spot on which the puzzle needs to be solved. Portals will transport Huerons all over the board; chameleons keep changing their colour unless they are merged with a Hueron, whereas wanderers are nomads that keep moving around the board unless they are merged with a Hueron and finally thresholds are locked and cannot be used unless one makes a specific number of moves.

“The game was actually created while I was working on another project, since there was a bug that led to merging of cells I got the idea of creating this cool puzzler. I used coco2dx to create the game and we had also put up the game on TouchArcade for getting user feedback, and BulkyPix was kind enough to approach us within a day to show interest in publishing the game,” reveals Mudit.

Even before the game was published it had already received a few recognitions – it won the “Best Strategy Game” at the Blackberry GameOn Contest 2014, India and it was the “Official Nomination, Best Indie Game” at Casual Connect 2014, Singapore.

The game is available at only $1.99 on iOS and there are also in-app purchases in the game for hints that are available for mere $0.99. The game has launched with 100 playable levels, but will soon be upgraded in the coming month. Apart from Mudit (designer and programmer), there is Himanshu Kapoor who has worked on the art and user interface and also Kinshuk Sunil, founder of HashStash has worked on the production and sounds and the complete game took about four months in developing.

Speaking on the state of the gaming industry currently Kinshuk says: “I believe we have seen a lot of interesting games in the recent past, also what is encouraging is that there is a lot of original and fresh work coming out from the industry. I am certain that the next two years will see an outburst of games and the industry will grow from strength to strength.”

The game is only 7 MB in size and is very smooth in its gameplay. With a total of 143 reviews on Google Play Store, it’s got a high 4.6 rating. Having played the game ourselves, it has a cool sense of urgency as well as an urge to complete each level as soon as one can; this aspect of the gameplay makes the instant connect with the user and creates a sense of achievement on completing each level.
