What are those blue check marks on your WhatsApp?

WhatsApp, now owned by social media giant Facebook has recently updated its app to indicate that the recipient has read your message.

The update has been rolled out on Google Play Store and iStore and both OS users can now use the feature starting today. This has also been confirmed by the official website and is seen on its FAQ section. The blue colour is also reflective of the fact that the social media giant is finally showing its true colours on the messaging app.

Now when you chat with someone, the message sent is marked with a single grey check mark, a double grey check mark indicates message successfully delivered and a double blue check mark indicates that your message has been read. You can also long tap on the sent message to find exact time when the message was read. Unlike the last seen feature this cannot be turned off.

The app’s much awaited feature voice calling feature (Voice over IP) has been delayed and will come on the app in the first quarter of 2015. The company wants to even out all the kinks and deliver a flawless product. “There were a few technical issues where the app didn’t have access to microphones on the smartphones”, said Jan Koum, CEO, WhatsApp.

The app received a major update last month when it introduced a fast camera access button, captions in the media, sharing of slo-mo videos and location-sharing features.
